I have had to switch from loose fitting running shorts to running tights due to chaffing. Other than using a body glide type product, which helps a little, but not totally, is there a way to fix this so I can go back to wearing running shorts. Has my running style changed? Anyone else have this problem and was able to fix it?
Wow, thanks OCTriGeek,
I thought I was fat or something. Yeah, I have the same situation. I just run in tri shorts now.
But I would rather run in runnung shorts.
Is it the increased size (muscles) of the theighs because of biking the culprit? When I was just a runner, I was able to run all day in shorts.
Should I look into getting innertheigh liposuction? Becca…?
Try running in a longer running short, 4.5 to 5 inch inseam.
I can’t do a long run in some of the 3 inch inseam running shorts as they will rub my legs raw.
I always wear compression shorts under my running shorts for this reason.
I have the same problem. I slather Chamois Butter all over my inner thighs, the boys and the 'taint. Seems to help.
“I slather Chamois Butter all over my inner thighs, the boys and the 'taint.”… and 45 minutes later I am ready to run ;^)
Where do you get this Chamois Butter? Is it is sold with the body glide type products?
I just wipe some vasoline on before I run. I can usually make it through an hour with one application, then I just put on some more. I found it lasts longer than bodyglide.
trisports.com, tri-zone.com, and a few others carry it. Some LBS’s have it too. It’s about $12/tube, but it works pretty good. It’s a mineral oil based lotion. The directions say to apply liberally, but some people also apply it with enthusiam. ;p

There’s only one answer here - Aquaphor!!
It’s a miracle…completely eliminates any and all chaffing issues…
i haven’t found anything that works.
i’ve chaffed through a few SLR saddles at this point, i’m not fat, just have bulking/muscular/ultra sexy thighs.
on the bright side, the callouses from the constant chaffing really help cover up the herpes outbreaks…uh…
