Chaffing after 1/2 VM: possible causes & cures?

so this chaffing thing is totally new to me. never had it in my life, now I have ‘it’.

The only thing I can think of is my Zoot 1 piece suit had stitching on the pad that bugged me, but then why only on one side? would body glide cure this? I use the suit in all my races and never had a problem (granted they were Oly & sprints, but still). I’ve been in bike shorts for 8 hour rides, so its not lack of conditioning to the Taint area.

Or is this just one of those things you deal with at long course races? Perhaps try a different suit for this distance? One volunteer doused me with water, is it heat/dampness related?

If its still raw Sunday, it will make for an interesting open ocean swim…

I would have to say dampness. I too don’t get chaffing very often, but after peeing twice on the bike Sunday, I think my shorts were just a little to damp and I got a rash on each butt cheek. :frowning: Sometimes it just happens and other times no problems!

didn’t even think of that! 4 times for me. that must have been it.

FOUR TIMES? goodness and I thought twice was bad. I was kind of bummed since my cycling shoes were new. :frowning:

Man, I was in real trouble. I kept drinking and never did once which I knew was not a good sign.

To quote the great triathlete Eminem - “You better lube yourself”

I give the “complete” undercarriage, nipples and armpits and feet a good lubing with bodyglide before any long course races.

I had to go 4 times as well, but I was only volunteering. How did the Trivents fit?

AWESOME!! Greatest shoe ever!!

takes a lot to keep 225 pounds moving =o)

bodyglide on the undercarriage. that’s a thought.

KK, how are you going to “clean” the shoes? Maybe in the future be near an aid station so you can blast it with water immediately after.

I put the insoles in the dishwasher with my bike bag as it usually gets “hit” as well and then I put the shoes in a bucket with some hot water, laundry detergent and some oxy cleaner! Soak overnight and then rinse with warm water! They’re looking and smelling good now!! Just drying out!
