Got the cover from Excel Sports. Mounting was simple. Remove cassette (need cassete tool and chain whip). Place covers on correct side of wheel. Loosely attach all screws/nuts. Tighten each one a little until mounted. Attache cassette. 10 to 15 minutes the first time from absolute start to finish. Slightly harder than changing a tire - less labor but a little more technical.
I have an almost perfect fit using Mavic MA3 rim. The rim and cover seem to be made for each other. There is a very small edge/gap caused by the foam strip on the inside of the cover. I wonder if I would get a perfect fit if I removed the slight foam strip attached to the inside of each cover?
Some owners have posted about removing the foam. Are you still happy you did so? Is it noisier when riding? Did it come off easily? Etc.
I’ve owned two of these covers now and have used them with 3 different wheelsets and have never used a foam strip. Both of mine came from wheelbuilder and they don’t even include the strip. If they are trimmed to fit the wheel you are using and if you use the right length fasteners it will fit plenty tight enough without it.
I wish I could use mine. I bought one from wheelbuilder but learned from Rich aftertrying to install it & the cassette was binding that my White LTA hub does not appear to allow very much room between the large cog and the drive side spokes.
5mm distance is required to clear your derailuer and cog set.
i got me a pair of fiskars,
trimmed the cover myself,
in order for cover to mount to wheel flush
it was necessary to trim past the foam strip,
if you have an “edge” between your rim and the cover
you need to trim it until it is completely flush,
