CFB report cards!

Well, we all have enough conference games under our belts to have an idea what we are cookin’ with at this point. I fear there is a great chance my Auburn squad could end up OUT of the top 25 by the time the regular season ends. We still have to play #3, #4 and #9 all on the road and from what I have seen thus far those are all going to be losses. We can win a couple of those potentially if some changes are made…simple ones, but unless we get back to what we do best which is run heavy/pass when run opens up the lanes…then we are gonna get throttled. As of late Gus has us coming out on 1st down chucking as if Peyton Manning is under center. I give us a B as a team considering what I think we hypothetically could be doing. Little concerned about our QB’s zone read calls he has left no less than 8 TD’s on the table that I have seen on live tv…keeping it when it should have been handed off or vice versa. Very confused with that issue b/c the zone read is so simple in many respects…pre-snap looking at the box you can see if everyone is accounted for or not…it’s not like the plays aren’t sitting there in front of him just like they were last year, but this year he does the opposite a lot of the time! Defense gets an A considering the injuries…we even had to turn our #4 receiver into a DB we are so depleted. I’m actually concerned about having to play South Carolina in Auburn at this point if we keep this new pass happy experiment as our modus operandi…with a fleet footed QB who throws marginally at best. Ahhhkk!

Good luck to your school rest of the year…that is unless you are an Ole Miss/Bama/Georgia fan;)

Mini shout out to former Tiger Tre Mason getting his first TD yesterday…all opened up by his former Auburn teammate Greg Robinson with the Rams! Uh hem, Tre nearly fumbled the game away though…hang on Tre dawg you are with the big boys now!

Can I get back to you in 365 days? My VOLS are close, but not there. We have a bad ass Defense, but our O-Line is horrid. I do predict a major upset for us again this year. Alabama at home this weekend. Do not sleep on us for this game. Lame Kiffen is going to be back in Knoxville and the fans are rabid. So if we can hang around and keep the score low, it will be a game.

If UT let’s Butch go that is a huge mistake IMO. Isn’t this the last year of his contract? Worley can play, D is there. I’m with you that the Bama game could be a good one. Thrashing AnM while fun to watch didn’t really show me a ton with Bama. I think you guys need to be on the look out for zone read though b/c they let Simms run loose and it’s a completely different look for a Saban team. Kiffin is such a tool I hope UT makes it so loud he can’t even breathe. If Worley hadn’t had to sit out the 3rd quarter in Athen’s you win that game…he was feeling it. Heck you still almost won it! I find Kentucky to be a parallel program to UT. Towles is a straight up stud and I’m very comfortable saying he is the best pocket passer in our entire conference. O-line is like a screened door on a submarine it’s amazing he isn’t dead yet. D is ok. They are SO close. Next year both of those squads could be danger danger.

Butch is not going anywhere. We lost Bruce Pearl. We aren’t losing Butch. I will not be able to talk, I will yell so loud on Saturday. Did I mention I hate Lame Kitten?!

My Aggies will do their best to help you guys stay ranked.

I wonder if a slot in the Galleryfurniture.com bowl is still open for us…

I will give it to Lane, whom I despise, for getting Nick to do something he has never done: zone read. Simms is a stud when he tucks it even on a designed keeper, but he sold the run to Yeldon like a stud and destroyed AnM with it. I will be very interested to see if they bring that out of the gate in Knoxville. Holy smokes I’m jealous you will be at that game what an environment.

Bumblebee. I’m scratching my head at you guys too. Not sure South Carolina was a good litmus, but after that in conference play it has gone downhill quickly. Ark was sketchy Hill was running sideways a lot, Miss State he was running backwards and Ole Miss he was just on his ass. I honestly don’t think our game will matter for us or you…this weekend will tell me a lot about Gus’s insistence on trying to pass on 1st down with a very average passing pedigree…hoping not. AnM/Auburn might be fighting it out for 4th place in the West and a trip to the Independence Bowl or whatever they call it these days:/

Spartans are looking pretty good, I wish we could have the second half of that Oregon game back.

Defense isn’t as dominant as it has been the last few years, but it is still solid. The offense early last year was as incompetent as I have ever seen in college football. Even against bad teams last year we were relying on the defense to carry the team. Jump to today and the Spartan offense is #3 in the country and playing at an elite level with mostly the same players. Hard to believe how far they’ve come.

I keep hearing talking heads say that they will be in the playoffs if they win out. I’m having a hard time seeing it, but there is a lot of football still to be played.

Ummmm I don’t think Sparty is out of it by any stretch. FSU has a huge test in Louisville this weekend. The 4 SEC West teams in the top 5…still left to play: Miss St/Ole Miss, Auburn/Ole Miss, Miss St/Bama, Auburn/Bama and Auburn/Georgia at like 8 or 9. That will knock those teams well out of the playoff sans 1.

I really think as long as Sparty cleans their plate and cleans it well all the way through Indy they are in! Dantonio is one of my fav coaches anywhere. And I don’t think you should be lamenting the Oregon game it just looked like the D was gassed…like all D’s do when a play is run every 18.5 seconds as Oregon does. There is only so much practice you can do to prepare for that…now maybe if you face them again? Who knows! They played Oregon toe to toe for 3 full quarters and then boom…3 scores in 5 minutes. That happens to anyone when they get into a track meet like that for the first time.
