Looking to buy a 2000 dollar road bike, I’ve narrowed it down to. The Cervelo Team Soloist (alum), the Trek Madone 4.7 (carb), and the Louis Garneau SONIX 6.4 SPORT (also carb). I’m more concerned with frame quality, and “fun to ride” factor than with components. I’ve read plenty about the Cervelo, but v. little about the other 2. Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks.
$2k total right? Not just for the frame?
No one was ever…got can I say it?..ever…oh, cramps…ever…I can type it!..
No one was ever disapointed with their carbon Trek. Made in US is a +
I feel dirty
Trek’s are garbage.
Cervelo has lost it’s cool factor.
Buy the LG.

Actually, ony the high end Trek’s are made in US these days…I believe only OCLV. The next poster said “Trek’s are garbage”…interesting statement with no details of why such a statement…one thing is for sure, you can’t beat the lifetime warranty.
Get the one that fits, and I also agree the LG may have a “different” factor…
Wow! YOU are actually recommending that someone buy a TREK??? I’m proud of you!
Trek is a great company that has one of the best, if not the best, customer service reputation in the industry. I have owned several Trek bikes and wouldn’t hesitate recommending one to someone.
I have several Treks as well and love them all. However, Chip has a rep for being in the “anti-Trek” camp. LOL!

So because Treks are “garbage” and Cervelo has lost it’s cool factor buy the bike that is the same as about 6 other models coming out of the same factory but with different decals on it? At least Treks and Cervelos are only Treks and Cervelos and those two companies actually design their own bikes. I wouldn’t put LG in even the same sentence as Trek and Cervelo.

Wow so just because a bike has lost its “cool factor” you shouldn’t buy it. That’s the dumbest reason ever!!! You should buy the Cervelo because it’s a F-ing amazing bike and I’d take High grade Alum over Low End Carbon anyday.
My Vote is for Cervelo. I have a Team Soloist and I love it.
Dude, I was replying to another guy for saying that. I agree with you and was pointing out how ridiculous his statement was.

I second that. I have heard of Trek warrantying broken Lemonds that were built before Trek even owned Lemond. Now thats service.
*I will preface this by saying I am a Trek Dealer. (Along w/ Guru and Kona, and I’ve tried every other brand of bike out there)
I had the 2007 Madone 5.2 and LOVED it. From the first ride, I was comfy and enjoying the ride.
Sold it and now have the 2008 version coming.
I’ve been a Trek lover since 2000 when I started out on a used 1200 (like 15 yo used) and then slowly progressed into a 2100 then into a Madone. Oh, and have owned Trek Mtn. Bikes.
Not sure why Trek gets no love on here as they have a great product line.
I’ve tried out somes Cervelos but they weren’t what I wanted.
Have tried some older LG bikes but they just never appealed to me.
I’d buy a Felt (and am) over any of those three.

hahaha my bad! but yes ridiculous statement it is. I think I accidently replied to yours because I liked the all bold typing.
Chip, you’ve made a lot of good progress today. Maybe you should go lie down for a while. Seriously, was a Trek ever part of your stable? I know you’ve had a lot of quality rides, just wondering where you rank Trek’s compared to the others (ie Litespeed)… Since apparently you are in a weak moment, I figure this is our one and only shot to get your opinion about Treks.
I’m thinking of those 3 since it is for my road bike afterall; NOT my tri-bike which I am still happy with and when I do change it, it’ll be hotter than that lame ass Felt or whatever… mainly because it’ll of course - be orange!!! But seriously, are there any folks out there who have ridden a new Madone and compared it with the alum. Soloist? Has anyone here ridden the LG?
I’m just messin with ya man…
The Madone is a fine bike. I just don’t like Trek’s cuz they don’t know how to make smaller frames that fit right. You use a bit bigger frame than me (if I recall), so likely no issues…
The Soloist offers more flexibility with position and is a pretty kick ass aero frame. Could double as a back-up tri bike too!
Nothing wrong with Alu cervelo’s… still love my p3!
Don’t know jack about the LG… but you’d be the only kid on the block with one… there’s a cool factor to that. ![]()
I’m ordering my Felt next week… can’t wait. Might sell my P3, :-(, and buy a road bike… will see.
Had a very early OCLV bike - hated it. Called it “Optimum Cracking Low Value” carbon fiber. If I got a Trek it may as well sport ShimaNO bits so you all can really make fun of me for the rest of my days.
$2k can buy you a pretty decent road bike. In addition to the Cervelo you might want to take a look at Felt and Orbea’s offerings. You’d do pretty well with Specialized, too.
I’ve never been a big fan of Trek, for no other reason than I’m just not a fan of Trek - as far as I can tell they make some nice stuff at the upper end (Jordan’s TTX was nice). I like Specialized bikes, as I like Orbea, Cervelo and Felt - great bikes, great companies.
The nice thing about a road bike is that unless the fit is really bad, it’s hard to buy a dog.
Thnx Khai, thnx Grgg (I think), the reason I’m focusing on those three is because the Trek & LG are in my local bike shop, and because of all the good press I’ve heard about the Soloist. Would also like to “keep it Canuck.” Pretty non-rationale approach, but so is training for any long distance race.
