Cervelo Road vs. Tri Bike Fitting

Can anyone offer any insight into Cervelo road vs. tri bike fitting if they have, or at least have been fitted, on both.

When getting fit for a P2C last year, I was suprised to find I fit better and a 54cm than a 56cm. I am 6 feet, 1/2 inch tall, 32-32.5 inch inseam, pretty normally proportioned in terms of torso and arms. I then heard from a fair amount of people who were also suprised to find they were fit better on a P2C or P3C that was one size smaller than expected.

I could have fit the 56 ok with a shorter stem, the 54 fit small but well and the 58 was way to big. I would probably be on the bigger end of riders fitting the 54, so I would say I was on the 54 side of the 56.

Now, looking at an R3, I am wondering if the 56 is the way to go and whether I should consider the 54. I am going to ride a 56 today, what should I be looking for in trying to figure out if it’s too big and a 54 might fit better. If choosing between a bike that was a touch too small versus a touch too big, I would rather be on the small side, but I want to make sure the bike fits well.

I am 6’1’’ 32 inseam, I ride both a P2C & a Soloist Carbon in a 56. I tried the 54 in both and felt that it was to small for me. The P2C in the 54 was to steep for my liking. After racing on the 56 for a year I am very happy with my choice.

I am 6’ have a 34" inseam(pants) have long arms and am very flexible. I have both 58 Dual and a 58 Soloist team. Both were professionally fit. I measure out for a 57 I found the larger frame was more comfortable with no spacers. I think that it is impossible to guess without a proper fit and test ride.
The end measurements for the 56 and 58 were roughly the same after test rides, the 58 just was more comfortable.

Well that sort of makes sense, I like to ride steep so maybe that’s why the 54 in the tri bike felt like a better fit than the 56.

Cervelo has always claimed that they size their road and tri bikes the same way and that most people will do best on the same size in either bike.

My experience was that I rode a 54cm P2K and would have rode a 54 cm Soloist/R3. The only thing about the P2K was that it fit really well in the steep position. If rode slack the effective top tube would have been a bit long and the next size smaller, 51 cm, would have had too short a head tube.

5’8" – rode a 54 P2K, 51 P3C. that was the decision btw LBS, cervelo, and me…

For a road bike, I’d say - 56 cm for you

I’m 5-10 and on a 54 SLC. You could do the whole Euro thing and ride a 54 with a long stem though

Damn, now you’ve gone and confused things!!! I hate a bike that fits too big so I don’t want the 56 if that’s how it’s going to feel.

That said, the Euro thing is pretty long and low up front, going with the 56 might be better in that it gives me a little more headtube, I just don’t want to have to put a miniature stem on it.

My 56 came w/a short stem but when the shop fit it to me it was replaced w/a longer one. My best advise to you is if you are confused about frame size ask your LBS to let you test ride the two sizes then make the decision,go with what works for you.

Well, it depends upon what 2 sizes you are between. If I’m not mistaken, there is a 2 cm diff in headtubes between the 54/56 but not between the 56/58 for example. I’d go with the 56.

Yeah, I am between 54 and 56.
