Cervelo R 2.5 Chorus

Has anyone got one this year? I have had one on order since last December.( I know I should look for another bike ) I just keep getting the run around from Cervelo. You know it will be here in a few weeks. The beginning of June I was told the frame is here it is just waiting to be built up. It wasn’t a big surprise to me that it never showed up. I got a response from them today saying they have Team issue ones if I wanted Dura Ace, but no Chorus. Also that they don’t know which frames will show up until they get them, if they are red they are Dura Ace and if blue Chorus. How can you not know what frames are arriving. I know they are coming from Taiwan but give me a break, they should know what frames they are building. Maybe the Team issue ones make them more money so magically they get only red ones. Sorry to rant I am just getting a bit upset by the lack of knowledge they have on what is being built. I guess this is what I get for trying to buy a bike outsourced to someone they obviously have little control of. I was also told next year the will be able to track what frames are being made, which doesn’t really help me unless my 2005 becomes a 2006. Good thing I have other bikes I can ride.

I’m sure there are other bike companies that would be very happy to sell you a bike. Waiting over 6 months for a bike is inexcusable.

I’m in the same boat as you, although I’ve “only” been waiting 2 1/2 months…so far.

If they have team frames in stock, I’d gladly take one of those with the Chorus components on it. I like the red decals just as much as the blue ones.

My old bike is going to disintegrate mid ride one of these days…

What size do you need? Looks like excelsports.com has a bunch: http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=R2+5+Chorus+Bike&vendorCode=CERVELO&major=1&minor=1

if you add to the basket it says “on backorder”
.

I only checked 54 and 56 cm. What size do you need?

You’re right. I just checked for a 56cm. They have 1 in stock.

Buy the frame, build it up yourself. Done.

I’m bidding on a tcr on ebay - It’s new, I may be able to get it and for an extra $1000 put full record on it (I have cranks)

same price - full bike vs frame

totally agree with jhendric. waiting 6 months for a bike – any bike – is nuts. the cervelo is a good bike, but there are a ton of good bikes out there that you should be able to buy today, ride tomorrow.

your options seem pretty clear: wait, and continue waiting. or bail, and get something else, now.

the cervelo uses pretty normal geometry. if you fit a stock cervelo, you should be able to find another stock bike to fit pretty easy.

I had to wait 6-months for my wifes TCR Advanced frameset and 8-months for mine after they were from Giant at Interbike last year. Have not regretted it one bit and I am still awaiting the arrival of my TCR Composite TT frameset:

If you like the Cervelo, check out the Scott CR-1. These are the two bikes on my wish list.

Of course, i need a new bike like another hole in my head. I’m riding a Tarmac and really like it. Nothing but bike lust…

That sucks that you have to wait. I got mine (chorus) off the shelf at my LBS in February, (lucky they had one I guess) and so for I love it. I don’t really have much to compare it to though as I haven’t ridden a lot of other top end bikes.

My only comments/complaints so far are the following

1.) Sometimes (not often) when I have my hands off the bars (feeding, changing clothing etc.) I get a shimmy up front that starts growing exponentially but as soon as I put a hand back on it damps out immediately.

2.) I’m getting a disquieting, though probably benign, creaking noise when I push down hard on the left pedal.

3.) The rear wheel that came stock was making a bizarre intermittent creaking noise that I never tracked down, but I’ve been riding a different wheel lately so who knows. Another post a couple of months ago mentioned this issue.

4.) In a crit a few weeks back I messed up my chain and had to jump onto a teammate’s Trek and not to say that my 2.5 feels sloppy, but this thing was STIFF! I stepped on the pedals and the bike jumped forward. I don’t know how much of this was due to the DA outboard bearing crankset on the Trek as opposed to the FSA crankset on my Cervelo or was due to the actual frame, but I liked the additional stiffness.

If anyone has ideas on what to do about the first three comments please let me know.

I tried a Scott CR-1 didn’t like it as much, but it sure beats not having a bike. I was also told there is a wait on them too,but 6 months. Today I see Cervelo are going to be making a carbon version of the Soloist. Shouldn’t they fix their problems with the R2.5s before they venture into making a new carbon bike.

After all of this excitement with Excel having R 2.5’s in stock, I called the LBS I ordered mine from to see about getting my deposit back so I could just order one online.

They called me back today and said that Cervelo told them my bike was number 28 on the list, and they just got 40 frames in, that would be assembled and shipped out late next week. So, I guess I’ll keep waiting a bit longer…

  1. tighten your bottom bracket. had the same thing on my soloist team and that shut her right up.

I am supposed to be # 12 but with their track record I will not hold my breath. They will most likely be the wrong color(red not blue) and someone who has been waiting 5 minutes will have a new bike. I know it is not their fault, it is mine for waiting 6 months for a bike.

Did they ship your bike? I have heard nothing from them so I guess it is going to be 7 months and counting.

Update:

The LBS called on Monday and said that the bike had shipped from Cervelo. They expected it to be at the shop in 3-4 days, so I should be able to pick it up this week, either Friday or Saturday!!
