Cervelo P4 Component Spec

I was referring to the notion of the P4 specifically…because of its popularity (hype?). Could Giant put inferior components on their top end bike and still charge x dollars? Not a chance.

this is my uneducated logic

P3 frameset is $ 3,300
P3 Dura- Ace is $4,500
which makes the components cost $1,200.

P4 frameset is $ 6,800
P4 Dura- Ace is $4,800
which makes the components cost $2,000

If the dura ace is 7900 is the difference between the drivetrains worth $800. For that difference I would think they might upgrade the basebar.

Just my 2 cents.

the p4 is coming with SRAM RED not dura ace…

I might be wrong but does a company usually choose the parts and then put on a MSRP in according to the price of the parts?

sorry, that is what i meant

and the rear break must be worth something extra… good luck this year, hope to see you in many podiums.

All,

Here is what I’ve heard from Cervelo:

Thank you for your interest in Cervélo. Specifications for the P4 have moved towards finalization. But as our specification listings have always suggested- “Specs can change without notice.” Circumstances can arise that can force changes at any time. Please keep this in mind when making your choice.
At this time much of the drivetrain spec is SRAM Red- Front and rear derailleurs, crank, BB, and shifters.
The supplied wheels are likely to be Easton Circuits. These are great training wheels that will enable you to save your carbon tubulars for race day.
As the P4 has its proprietary rear brake, and most manufacturers like to sell brake sets as opposed to single front brakes, we have opted to supply the in-house Cervélo front caliper. This brake offers great braking performance and helps to keep the cost down. We have noticed that many of our customers having been equipping their bikes with the various CNC machined calipers available on the market. Your dealer will be able to provide you with additional options if you are interested.
The aerobar/basebar combo will very likely be the FSA Visiontech system and the matching aero brake levers.
The stock setup will offer great performance right out of the box. For the ultimate in a personalized custom build, the frameset is the way to go. In addition, framesets are going to be shipped first. If I have missed any details please let me know.
Thank you for your support.

I’m a bit dissapointed in their choice of brake, however was expecting the FSA bars and something similar to the Easton Circuits for the wheels. Oh well, it will be easy enough to replace a single brake. Now I just need to find out where I can buy a front brake rather than the pair…

For the front brake, you could go with the Oval aero brake (back brakes are sold seperately on Ebay all the time) and buy yourself the brake cable hanger that mounts on your steerer and do the modifications that some have done with the rear Oval brake to be used on the front. This will allow you to bring the brake cable done directly in front of the headtube and should allow for better aerodynamics compared to a standard brake lever.

Does anyone know what this bike will be coming with for the $6800? I’m waiting for a 51cm, and am trying to figure out what wheels and bars it will have and what I will need to upgrade (I know the componentry is SRAM Red). Also, I may elect to keep the wheels it comes with as training/beater wheels. Thanks.

The components are SRAM red minus the brakes. Because of the proprietary break that the P4 has on the back, I believe SRAM didn’t want to just sell front brakes to spec the P4’s. I believe the front brake will be the same as the ones on the P3 and P2’s. In terms of wheels, I’m not quite sure though I think it’s the Shimano R-550 aero’s and last I heard the bars will be the Vision base/ski bend combo.

When I ordered my 596 back in Sept it was for frameset only. I did some research for a brakeset and decided to go with Simkins. The frontal aera on this caliper is very small. Its not as light (275g) as Zero Gravity or some others in that range but I opted for the caliper due to its size and frontal aera for improved aerodynamics. its sitting in my bike shop. The set is very well made (CNC) and quite small compared to other calipers. The cable hanger is very close to the side of a headtube. it does not stick out like a regular caliper. I’ll post pics in a few weeks when the build is done.

OP says he ordered in Nov…I’m into the 4th month of waiting for my new ride. I finally, 2 days ago, got a ship date to the US, January 29th. The frame will finally be here sometime the first week in February. 5 months of waiting! My first race is Feb 22. I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to do the build and tinker with the setup in less then 2 weeks : (

As the OP stated he ordered without knowing the full build on the P4. I also ordered without alot of detailed info other then what I read on the net and checked out with Look dealers. Though I do get to build my own, save the crankset and pedals.

BTW - This will be a “mans bike”. All the 596’s posted thus far are tiny little “baby bikes”. The large frame will look quite different then the little frames posted thus far! : )
