Cervelo P3C 2009 versus Cannondale Slice 2016

I am considering upgrading to a newer tri bike. I’ve been using a 2008 or 2009 P3C for the last 10 years, and it has become a bit of an antique.

Found a good deal locally on a 2016 Cannondale Slice. Is it worth it to upgrade to the slice? I’d have to switch the 3r aura bars and he’d jet wheels I’ve been using on the P3C.

Thanks in advance for any input.

The only possible reason would be the Slice’s capability of running 28mm tires; with the P3 you can’t go beyond 25mm’s. Otherwise it’s not worth to change

NO!!! I have older P2 and Older P3 and a new P Series. I don’t think slice is faster. Maybe with regard to the tires, but, unlikely with regard to aerodynamics. P3 was fastest of its generation and the benchmark for almost a decade. Yes, there were some faster within those 10 years, but, not by much. Also, Cannondale was only dedicating about 1/2 a decade to Tri. Cervelo has had decades long commitment to the sport… I wouldn’t bother. If buying. Buy NEWER. Or, get a Road or Gravel grinder option (provided you don’t have any). Personally, despite a 2016 being cheaper, I think you’d be throwing your $$$ away. And, it looks like you’ll have to be making aerobar, basebar, and shifter investments anyway… Again my 2 cents..

I’m only upgrading my Cervelo P3 because I’m going to disc brakes on the Cervelo P-series. If I was sticking to rim brakes then the P2/P3 is the only bike I would want.

Agreed - for YEARS the P3 was the Gold Standard in TT/Triathlon Frame aerodynamics and performance. It was not just Cervelo hype - it was actual and real Wind Tunnel numbers. It’s been surpassed by some of the recent Super Bikes - but not by much. The difference in top-end frames, is not that great. The ill placement of a water bottle as an example, can wipe any gains out!

Thanks for the feedback, Chris & everyone for the feedback. This is helpful. I’ve decided to keep the old P3C for the upcoming season. I just added some risers on the bars for a better fit and to hopefully stay in an aero position for longer periods. How does your newer P series bike compare to your older p3 and P2? It sounds like that’s your only recommendation for an upgrade from the old 2008/09 series.

Thank you,

That’s a lot of risers!

70mm!

You can’t run 28mm on the slice
