Cervelo P3AL Replacement

I,m currently riding a Cervelo P3al and thinking of a new bike. The possible list of replacements would include the Speed Concept 7 series, P3c, or the new Shiv. I,m looking at a frame and doing my own build, so factory build specs are not an issue. I,m looking for the most aero bang for the buck and some free speed over my P3al. Has anyone made a bike change like this and seen an improvement in there times?

I’ve gone from the P3AL to P3C

Things of interest:

stack and reach is a little different, so you MAY not want the same size, be sure to check that.

The P3AL is supposedly about the same drag as a p2C, so only about 5-10 grams of drag difference. That would work out to only like 3-5 seconds saved over 40k.

Certainly not enough to notice or detect in your race times.

I made the upgrade because I had to due to an accident with a car. If I was going to upgrade a P3AL i wouldn’t bother unless I went to something like a shiv, p4, or speed concept 9 series.

Thanks for the reply, I was looking at a SC 7 series and the price looked right, thought it would be a good upgrade.

it might be. unfortunately the only wind tunnel data I’ve seen on the 7 is from trek’s own white paper: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Downloads/TK10_SC_white_paper_lores.pdf

if that totally reflects reality, I would say it is a worthwhile upgrade. (the drag difference on that chart would imply something like 25 seconds saved over 40k)

Even if that chart is a bit of an exagerration it might still be a worthwhile upgrade, especially if you plan to make use of the draft box to hold a spare kit, and don’t like horizontal dropouts.
