Cervelo P-series - Setups

I’ve been building mine up over the winter. Have put Revolver long arm rests which narrowed the space where the BTA bottle cage should go, so I am experimenting with a 3D printed platform. Has held up so far…

Amazing bike, but isn’t that the p5? I think he’s looking for what used to be the p2 version, and is. Ow called the p-series.

I tried the Vision Metron aerobars with the snakebite stem on my p-series. I have mechanical disc brake. After routing the front brake cable routed through the stem and down the fork steerer tube, there was too much binding of the brake cable for the front brake to work. I tried new cables and housing as well as routing it a few ways, but it never worked for me. It may work with hydraulic front brakes, I’m not sure.
I’m going to be building up a P-Series for a friend shortly that will use the HSF Aeria stem/bottle and the Vision Metron TFA aerobars, with TFE extensions. Should be a crazy fast setup - will post pics when I do.

In the meantime, here’s a picture of my wife’s P-series, built with Di2, a Tririg Alpha X aerobar and a custom Aeria HSF bracket and bottle.

I’d be very interested to see what the P-series looks like with the vision metron TFA aerobars

this was mine and here’s the full article with more pics:

the profile front hydration really comes into its own on disc brake bikes, because the brake housing from a side pull rim brake forced the flap on the side of that system outboard. the best implementation of that hydration system is the new QR V-PR, because the folks at QR took that hydration system and really sculpted it to match it to their frame. but the P-Series with that stock hydration system works great. that bike above had a whole PD front end, that replace the vision front end that came on that bike as original equipment.

Do you have any photos of what the P-series looks like with the snakebite stem and the Vision Metron Aerobars? I’m not too worried about routing the front brake cable through the stem. Maybe 1 or 2 watts difference from what I hear.

Out of curiosity, do you companies sending you bikes to try and then return them, or you get to keep them?

Or, do you have a lot of bikes?

Which of the last few tri bikes you’ve had within the last 3 to 4 years has or have been your favorites?

I’m planning to upgrade my girlfriends bike with the Snakebite and Vision Basebar, would be great to see some pictures and some experiences!
How did you manage the cutting of the fork?

i send them back, unless i buy them. Over the past few years I’ve purchased an OPEN WI.DE frame as a gravel bike, and then purchased a size run of those frames and built them up for guests who come to and stay here for workshops and the camps. this is one of my favorite bikes. i’ve purchased over the past year a Quintana Roo SRsix and a Cervelo R5, both road bikes.

it may seem as if that’s a lot of bikes to buy, but i had the same road bike for 8 years before i got these 2 road bikes, and the gravel bike replaced one i got in 2013. i also got an OBED gravel bike just for bikepacking. so, yeah, i’ve been on a shopping spree the past 3 years, but i just had bikes that were in need of replacement. the P-Series that was the subject of my post in this thread, that was a bike on loan for editorial purposes. as to my road bikes, i haven’t decided which one i like better yet.

I’m setting a P-Series up right now with the metron tfa bars.

I’m just waiting for a few parts to arrive as I’m going to put a jc41 4 port junction inside the stem and an rs910 junction in the acrobats using a profile design aeroport, but measuring that all out it looks like it should work neatly with no cables showing.

Do let me know how it goes, I’d be very interested on the outcome.

I’ve put the photos of what I’ve done so far on here https://photos.app.goo.gl/GS3ATDW7UxPu9qLY8

Thanks for sending these through! Did you say that you’re also rerouting the brake cable so it isn’t showing? How have you gone about that?

Yep, the hydraulic hose goes through the steerer tube fairly easily. Only issue so far is that the hose isn’t long enough to reach the shifter so I’ve had to order a replacement. Its the 5mm width hose in case you’re using the same trp 910 brakes.

I got this steerer bung that allows you to route the hose through it https://r2-bike.com/SUPERNOVA-Expander-for-The-Plug-KP651X

The metron bars come with a top cap that needs a hole drilled through it for the hose. That’s the red one in the pictures. I had a similar grey one in my parts bin that I’ve done as a test and it seems to hold well still. But it doesn’t fit quite right with the top cover so I’ll do the red one.

I was a bit worried about the angle of the hydraulic hose but I drilled the hole at a slight angle and filed the edge nice and smooth so it should be fine.

The metron bars also come with a top cap bolt with a hole in it so you can screw the carbon top cover over the top of that.

I’m going to run a splitter cable between the shifters and from experience its best to put the di2 cables through before the hydraulic hoses because the connectors are wider than the wire itself.

There’s not a lot of space inside the metron bars so i can see how mechanical cables and outers wouldn’t fit.

That is my training / long distance setup. Stock with raisers, I still have the chimney. My flat and toolkit is in front of the step, my food back hanging behind the bottle. A mini pump is attached to the side of the BTA bottle as well, the GPS attached to the right extension bar.
Not super super aero but all in one place and I am completely autonomous day-long rides.

Here’s probably the slickest P-series out there. Delta cover allows the brake cable to be hidden but is otherwise not a totally necessary part of the build I’d say.

Is that a torpedo BTA?

It looks huge

Pretty simple, and very effective :-)!

I think it is. It is a fairly large bottle but that cockpit looks like it’s set up fairly short as well which is making the bottle look extra big.

Here’s my most recent picture. I go back and forth between using the Torpedo BTA or just a standard bottle. The Scoops were the most recent, and probably my most favorite addition. Instead of mounting the junction box on top of the stem, I decided to route it into the bento box by cutting holes in the front of the bento box and the other plastic piece. It takes up a bit of room, but I can still manage to fit 4-5 gels.

Forgot to follow up, but finished my friend’s P-series.

Bike is built with Ultegra R8050 Di2 components, the Di2 compatible TRP brakes, Irwin whees, a Profile Design Aeria Ultimate V2 stem, Vision Trimax Si013 base bar (the Metron bar just without an integrated stem), and Vision Metron TFE extensions.

Cool!
are those 28mm GB5000s? no problems for clearance?
