Hope people can help answer my question. I can’t afford to purchase another bike and I would like to convert my Dual into a road bike. If I swapped out base bar and aerobars for regular drops and turned back the seat, would it come close to replicating the road fit of a Soloist? Thanks for any help.
I think it would still be way steeper than the Soloist after all your changes.
Yes the Dual will be steeper. If you look at the Cervelo website you can see the difference.
The Dual in slack angle is 75 and in steep angle is 78
The Soloist in slack angle is 73 and in steep angle is 76
It’s doable but not ideal. The seat tube is steeper which is not ideal for a road bike. You’d do better to sell the Dual and pick up a used Soloist. The prices would probably be about the same.
I’ve wondered about this also. Bianchi road bikes have a 74 degree seat tube angle in their 55cm road bikes. I sure that difference of one degree could be made up with the right seat pushed backwards. maybe you won’t get 73 or 72.5 out of it, but if a name like bianchi uses a 74 degree angle…I’d guess there’s nothing wrong with it.
there was a link to a Dual for sale on Ebay. I will try to find it for you. It looked not too bad but not sure how it would handle. Will you be using shortie bars on it.
I think that it would probably be ok. I’m not familiar with the Soloist geometry.
I ride a 52cm Trek OCLV that has a 75 degree seat tube. My 51cm Dual also has a 75 degree seat tube and I believe that the top tube lengths are similar. The Dual does have a much shorter head tube. It may depend on the size of your frame???
