Hello guys,
Next year I’m going to do 3 IM’s and looking to buy a good tribike for the long distance.
After searching everything on the net these are the only 2 that remain. Price is about the same for both.
I’m very tall, 1.97m, and can you help me in my choice between these both.
Every help and experience with these bikes is much appreciated.

I happen to own one of each. I ride a 54 Ironman 800 and a 54 Dual. I like both of these bikes very well. I race on a 55 QR Tiphoon. I am a bike junkie. I figure it’s a little cheaper than being a car junkie. I would say if both the Ironman 800 and Cervelo Dual fit you, go with the one you find to have more sex appeal. I just couldn’t refuse the Dual with the Team CSC colors and a pair of Zipp 404s. The Ironman 800 with the Gipiemme 40mm Tecno’s looks pretty hot though too. Dual is full Ultegra while the 800 is a 105/Ultegra mix. I find both to be equally as comfortable.

They are very well seperated and spread over the whole year, a lot of travelling tough for a Belgian guy!
South Africa(03), Austria(07) and Florida(11) are the ones!
So I need the right bike and in Belgium the prices are double of those in the States for the same bike. If I lived over there I wouldn’t have a problem with my choice.

If the difference is so significant why don’t you fly to the states, get a bike and a week holiday?
I can’t see why it is double in Belgium but whoever get the difference can stuff it.
So should it be an Ironman 2000 or a P2K?
I am not sure about your reply, but you can get a flight from Belgium to NY JFK for $380 (I just checked). It is only 7hr 20mn. Two nights in NY for another $150 and some nice food in a deli. Then go to to R & A and get a bike. So we are talking $600 which will still be much cheaper for you, and a small adventure thrown in.

So I’ll repeat it. The problem isn’t the trip over there but the income taxes you have to pay once you arrive on Belgian soil. They rise up to 21% on the total cost of the bike. So adding this up with the cost of the trip you end up with the same price you have to pay in Belgium…
There are ways to avoid these taxes and I I thought of doing this and buy me a bike after IM Florida, but since I will compete also in IM South Africa and IM Austria before I really need my bike earlier.
Prices are crazy over here mainly cause of these taxes and since we haven’t got a Belgian brand who makes tribikes we all rebuild are road bikes or pay a lot of money for a tribike.
To give you an idea. The price of a P3 in the States is only a 1000$ more than the price you pay over here for a Dual…
Can’t help with the choice of bikes but glad to see you are coming over to South Africa to do Ironman here!!! I’m sure you will be very impressed with the race and our country.

hey wozza, where do you live in south africa? i was in capetown about 5 years ago. i stayed in a beautiful little hotel across the street from the ocean - can’t remember the name. i actually won the trip through a gatorade contest and i had a fantastic week there! I was really impressed. I can’t wait to return and take my wife with me.

You probably wouldn’t recognize Cape Town now - they have built plenty more hotels along the beachfront but it is still a beautiful place!!
Bring the wife and do Ironman South Africa in March 2005!!
I live in Johannesburg which is obviously nowhere near as beautiful as Cape Town but the weather is better, the chicks are better and the pay is better etc etc!!
Hope this helps… my first impressions of my Dual after 200 miles. It is an excellent package. I went looking with $2500 in my pocket and I still don’t think I could have come up with anything better. I’ll use the “extra” $800.00 to buy a set of tubulars (use the Ritchies for training). I’ll give the seat another two to three hundred miles. May upgrade the DiaComp levers and Cervelo brakes to my Tektros but I want to get a few more miles in and see how things wear.
