Cervelo Dual - Dual Personality

I have a 61cm Dual and just finished a couple halfs and an IM this season. I have a kid on the way so there is no long-course training in my immediate future. I was thinking of getting a road bike for recreational riding here around Madison, WI. Then I remembered the marketing for the Dual. Not being a bike guy, I really don’t get it though.

So, if I flip my seat post around and put on pursuit bars with STI shifters - how good a road bike will I have?

I am willing to do that if it would be a smart money-saving move - I will probably only do a few olys and sprints in the next couple seasons.

The dual will get you steep and less steep - it is not a road bike/tri bike. Gerard responded some time ago to a query I had about it - search and you shall find.

That being said, there are people that put drops on tri bikes and race them pretty well. Just ask smartasscoach, I think he knows at least one guy who put drops on his P2K…

I’m riding with drops on my P2K - basically so I can have a high position for climbing and a low position for descending. I still have some aerobars, home-made frankenbars with S-Bend extensions that stick out barely beyond the STI levers. Seat is most of the way back on the rails in the rear position, about 1.5 inches of spacers below the stem.

It’s not perfect, but it does the trick.

I also thought that this was how the Dual was marketed but have since learned that the ‘dual’ refers to both the downtube and seattube being aero, not dual purpose. It is a tri specific bike, not sure how it would do rekitted to road configuration.
