Inspired by Tom’s writeup in the Carbon-or-Ti thread, can anyone speak to the differences between the Cervelo Chord and Easton EC90 Aero fork? I know that the Easton is considerably lighter, but I typically don’t spend a ton of money just to save a few (hundred) grams. But if the ride is substantially better, I could be swayed.
Will the Easton give me a significantly better ride than the Chord fork? Enough so that would you never be able to go back to riding a Chord fork after having the Easton? Does the Easton come with any (increased or decreased) handling differences from the Chord?
I’m riding the EC90 on my P3SL yet never rode the chord. I know someone talked to Gerard about forks (but I think it was the Wolf vs. another) and he convinced them to stay with the Wolf. I just know that the Easton fork is lighter and gives my bike a bit of a different look. Tom D. rode a EC90 with his P3SL and liked it but didn’t say much more than that. I think my Easton has 43 mm rake and the Chord - ? 44mm?. My bike seems to ride fine with the EC90…
The Easton is nice, I ride it, but that is more a function of Reynolds availability than ride preference. The Reynolds fork, IMO, had a superior “feel”, but was not readily available in the desired rake.
I swapped out the Chrod fork for the Easton on my P3 last year. Sold the chord on ebay and got some of my money back. The Easton rides very very nicely and I wouldn’t ride anything else at this point. Plus it looks good. and the weight thing is considerable. When I held them up together is was very noticable.
Resurrecting this thread with a question for the wrenches…
I’m popping an EC90 Aero fork on my 05 Soloist, and wonder if I need a fork crown race on the EC90? The crown race I had didn’t seem to fit on the EC90, and when I mounted it without the race, it’s too tight. I’m using an FSA compresser top-cap and the frame obviously has an integrated headset. Anyone?
