Century camp days 3 and 4

i’ll check in after tomorrow’s race to let you know the final tally. finish strong campers (or, what the hell, go enjoy your easter baskets, it’s your camp). happy easter. later,

.

Well, my schedule couldn’t quite follow the same dates as Dan’s but I did get 24,000 meters (5 days) of swimming in this week and about 105 miles of riding the last four days…still chilly in northern Illinois. Very little running, though I’m hoping to go about 10 Sunday morning.

All the swimming these last months have left me with a pretty good aerobic engine, but also has kept some weight on. The poolwork just isn’t as weight bearing as running and I have to get some of this insulation off!

Mark:

That is a ton of swimming (and I’m a former northern Illinois swimmer myself, having struggled through cross-training during some killer Chicago winters). I’d suggest that you cut back to 7x swims every two weeks (alternate 3x & 4x per week) and get in the miles on those legs – you’ll find that your swimming strength will linger and you’ll be building a better overall experience.

Take care & think spring (ok, summer)!

-Mike

Day 3
Bike 36.5 miles followed by 4.25 mile run; first brick of the season and I was surprised by how good I felt and how fast (for me) I was. Looking forward to that first race.
Day 3 pts - 53

Day 4
Bike 69 miles. Longest bike of the season. It was a cold ride here in MI. Legs felt that brick from yesterday.
Day 4 pts - 69

Day 5
Run 12.5 miles of hilly roads.
Day 5 pts - 50

Total for 5 days - 298
