I had an Ultegra BB on my Ultegra-equipped bike, but was forced to replace it with a DA BB when it needed replacing. Since then, Ive had (which I never had before):
Pain in my right knee
Pain in my left achille’s tendon
Trouble adjusting my front derailleur
Im suspecting this can all be attributed to the BB change. The size is correct, but the DA BB doesn’t have a fixed fit like my Ultegra did - you have to adjust the lockrings to center it in the BB shell (I thought Id done it before, but then I wouldnt have problems). Is there an easy way to do this, or will I just have to trial-and-error it until it stops hurting?
The Dura Ace BB7700 still has a fixed cup, the drive side is fixed; setting the exact same chainline as you had before with your BB-6500 Ultegra BB. Furthermore, the spindle is the exact same width, so your non-drive crank is also in the same position. The adjustable cup is used for setting the pre-load on the cup/cone bearings and to dial in the exact amount as the BB shell widths vary by .5mm or so.
Now if the BB is not set up correctly, it is loose or tight, or if the cranks we installed out of time (unlikely) that you might have an issue.
I suspect your knee pain originates elsewhere, sorry.
you didn’t get given a bb for a triple crank in error? while that probably wouldn’t account for the pain ( unless you have unbelievably narrow hips ) it might explain the derailleur problem.
