My old clunker of a cell phone just died. Time for something new. I am also a big Palm user. Have been for years. I have a Palm Tungsten E2. The logical next step would be to get a Palm Treo. However, I don’t really need mobile eMail or Web-access. What I want is a phone with the ability to carry around in in 2,000 contacts and some other information from Outlook that syncs with my notebook. Strange that no one seems to make something like this. I guess I could get a Treo and not bother with the data contract. Seems a bit of a waste.
My service provider is reccomending the Palm Treo 700 or something called the HTC S720 The latter uses the Windows mobile system and the person I spoke to says is more phone than PDA. I do like the Palm OS and am very comfortable with it, but it would be great to have everything in one unit.
I use a Treo 700P and love it. It uses the PalmOS system and works just like your old TungtsenE. If all you want is a phone that stores a bunch of contacts you should be able to use most any high end phone. Motorola in particular sells software that allows you to sync your phone with your desktop, but not wirelessly. You need to use a cable and a USB port. The problem I had with that system was the calendar function. It was cumbersome and the screen on the phone was just too small to view the info that I wanted. I’ve also heard of some new software that syncs your phone over the cellular network. I think it is call SyncCell. I don’t know anything about it but it sounds interesting.
So far I really like it. The big thing for me was having the Palm OS and the phone in one unit. It has all kinds of other bells and whistles, which I am discovering. Synced with Outlook very easily. I am good to go.
I was not planning on using this as an email device or for internet access, but I have three months of free data and email so I will see if I like it and then make a deceison on that.

You will get hooked on the e-mail anywhere function, I love it. I don’t take regular notes anymore with customers. I just send myself e-mails from the field.
