There is some vague rumbling in the press about the first ever Presidential Cell Phone, made by General Dynamics and using a host of secure features that are, of course, secret.
Here’s the phone:
And a little CNN snippet on the phone and President Obama’s cell phone use:
Maybe a “smart” phone is a little too high powered for a democrat president … maybe 2 cans and a string would work better or a shout out the window

Funny. I saw a news report today that said the Obama team has found the White House to be woefully out of date wrt computers, printers, LAN, etc. Apparently the Republicans aren’t that tech savvy either.

What do you expect? They did all their government business using their own email accounts, personal Blackberries, etc. Probably never printed anything.
That’s a bit slanted, as they’re referring to Windows XP as a “six year old operating system” like it’s ancient. Just like any other business, the White House will adopt technology as appropriate. I’m sure the NSA has conniptions over the amount of information in there that is so thinly separated from the outside world.
I dont get why all the commotion and media attention over a freakin phone. Do you expect anything less? I mean the most powerful man in the world should have a phone such as that. Basically, who cares? Aren’t there more important things to talk about?
Both secure an un-secure comms and data on the same physical device? And GD can guarantee no leakage between the two security levels, all in the size of a big cellphone? That’s some slick engineering. I wonder what the security clearance of the phone is…
