CDA training: where's everybody at?

From some of the other posts, sounds like I’m a big slacker on getting ready for CDA. Couple of questions for those folks doing it…how many hours of training are you averaging a week? What’s your longest run, bike? What other races are you doing to prep? Any other fun things that can keep me distracted at work…

On track. I think. I recently had some extra time so I got in some big weeks. I am up to swimming to 4500yrds. Biking 100 miles. And simulated running 2hrs. Hurt I beleive my lattereal quad attchment. Hurts on impact. Have not run for 3 1/2 weeks. Lots of deep water running and eliptical. Have very slight pain so will hopefully try to run this weekend. In 2 weeks have a sprint Tri. 3 weeks do a local event, run 9, bike 43, kayak 23. If I am not running by this weekend I will start to worry. This is a recovery week.

Don’t sweat other’s training.

What are your goals?

I’m training for CdA (and IMC)…Quite honestly I don’t think you should worry about other’s training. Focus on what YOU have time for and seek to complete YOUR training each week. There are far too many variables to determine a “right” answer. I’d suggest working with your coach to determine appropriate goals and training necessary to reach them.

However, if it makes you feel better…

Average weekly hours in March: 18 hrs (2.5 Swim, 12 Bike, 3.5 Run)

Longest Swim: 4,000 Meters

Longest Bike: 100 miles

Longest Run: 2.5 hours

I’m recovering from surgery so I’m still in a “base” mode and have completed little/no speed work. I’ll likely “train through” CdA with the goal of going sub-10 at IMC (this is a risky approach and another topic altogether).

I’ll complete Wildflower and then do much higher volume for the month of May (target peak week of 30 hours; 6 hours swimming, 18 hours biking, 6 hours running…This will be a week off from work to ensure I have time for proper recovery).

Cheers,

Puskas –

You’re right of course - I’m more chit-chatting than anything. I’m not stressing about it - although my volume is relatively low, it’s quite pumped up from the winter I spent lounging and drinking too much wine. So I’m on the right track.

Just curious what other folks are up to…it helps motivate me to get out the door for a ride in wet, mucky conditions and sometimes someone will throw out a brick idea or something cool that gets me excited to go try it. And hearing about other races is always fun!

Also, things like percentages - you spent a lot of time on the bike in March and it reminds me I need to be getting on the bike more…tough weather has made me grab my running shoes, but I should be getting the hours on the bike. Swimming is my “third best” (try to stay positive!) event, and I’m also doing Alcatraz, so I need to continue to spend a chunk of time working on swim technique to improve my times.

Even at my top level of training, I don’t think I’ll ever hit 30 hours - 20 about sends my immune system to the edge it seems. But hey…I’m not looking at sub-10 anything. I’ll try to come in around 12.5 or so at CDA.

Sounds to me like you are on a great track though - thanks for sharing and best of luck!

Good Post! Its nice to see what everyone else is up to. Im doing IMWI and am at about 8-12hrs a week. concentrating on running since it is my weakest, just starting to ride more since its warming up in IL, and little or no swimming (strength). Also doing some early season sprints and a 1/2 in July. Good Luck!
