CDA swim (1)

JUst got out of the water and Tom Ziebart called the swim at about 7:30 this morning with 63 degree temps.

Swam 2 laps on a short buoy course and water is fine. It is a bit rough right now, choppy with winds out of the SE at about 10mph

but no need for a neophrene swim cap or ear plugs.

Skies are blue and setting up for a perfect IRONMAN race sunday.

wow…CDA is a nice place and the 5 day drive out was great.

its SHOWTIME

Just heard from a Top Ironman-NA official that the swim will be a little different than in the two years past. It will be in the shape of a rectangle instead of triangle; and it will go counter-clockwise instead of clockwise. That way the swimmers won’t swim directly into the rising sun so I was told and the sun will be off at an angle. It will however be 2.4 miles long again…and 63 degrees was confirmed temp. this morning

What this means for those of us that will follow the race from our computer chair? Zero.

From what I can remember, the swim WAS rectangle in shape last year. It did run in a clockwise direction, however, (correct me if I’m wrong), but if they run the course in counter-clockwise direction, the swimmers would swim directly into the sun.

Plus, if they change th direction, it would force the swimmers to swim virtually up the “current” of the lake. (There is an underwater current about half way out as I can remember).

They’ve started!

The cannon just went off, which means that the Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene Triathlon has started.

The start this year has been moved to the other side of the beach – the new rectangular course goes in a counter-clockwise direction.

There’s a long straightaway, then the athletes will make a sharp left turn, swim parallel to the beach for about 50 meters, and then make another sharp left turn and head back to the beach.

In between the two laps, the athletes will come out of the water for a quick run on the beach.
