Cats and Dogs -pictures added

hey guys,

May-Lise came back with a cat today…5yo, raised with dogs…He is very playful with us, although still a bit shy but pretty aggressive with our two goofballs of dogs…any tips to establish a connection…

time…the dogs will learn who is the boss soon enough…kid you not. Our shep cross could tear apart a man if she needed to but when the cats get in a mood she knows it’s time to move to another room. Call it professional courtesy. If the cat was raised with dogs it will settle down soon enough.

They’re just working out the territorial issues.

Pictures!

Congrats! The shy part will most likely go away with time. The cat and dogs will work out their “pecking” order.

A couple of tips…
Cat like things that smell like them and believe it or not, you! So when you are not at home leave the cat a small dirty clothes pile to sit in.

Also, a collar whether indoors or outdoors in always a great idea to be safe.

Finally…post some pictures!

Give them a quiet room if possible - which they can make their own.

Don;t force yourselves on them - cats are unique in that they will come to you when they are ready - and they willmeka you work for their trust and affection- but once you get it - it is the most rewarding feeling.

Good luck and congrats on the feline addition

I’m glad May-Lise has a cat. benji can finally learn to stop the homo interspecies dating thing with Gravy when you guys come visit. Either that or he will be more confused and frustrated. Gravy is glad that he is no longer the apple in Benji’s eye.

Give them 48 hrs and they will have established the pecking order, safe areas, play areas, and the cat’s spot to hang out. Hopefully your cat doesn’t meow as loud, as often or as early as Gravy either.

email me name and pics.

here they are…Shatz, a ‘found-in-the-desert-cocker-spaniel-when-he-was-a-puppy’, Benji, a mix of portuguese water dog, and something, got him at 1yo from animal rescue league, and the already named Tom, the cat, 5yo…

My God, that cat has got the eyes of a psycopath! Why is the Spaniel called “Shatz”? Is that what it main occupation is?

The cat is cute, great markings. Benji is one lucky dog and Tom is one unlucky cat to have benji as a boyfriend!

I’ve had a lot of experience with “mixed” households. (cats and dogs) I found it takes an adult cat about 2 weeks to adjust to its new siblings. At that point you will probably know how its gonna be. If your cat got along with dogs before, chances are it will accept yours.

In the meantime don’t let the dogs chase the cat. The thrill of the chase is what sets off a dogs “aggression” towards a cat. Chances are, if they catch it they wouldn’t know what to do, but it will make the cat afraid of them.

Cute kids you’ve got there. Good luck
