Ten hours of walking around New York City, 100 catcalls and one huge problem.
Rob Bliss of Rob Bliss Creative makes viral videos for a living and decided to use his craft to shine a light on street harassment, a pervasive issue affecting females around the world. Partnering with actress Shoshana B. Roberts and Hollaback, a nonprofit movement launched by activists to end street harassment, Bliss packaged his production as a PSA and offers viewers a different perspective on the problem.
Anyone see this? She was on AC360 last night and they were appalled that she was treated like this. It does seem odd, but I guess she went out her way to try to get these comments. Do other women in NY get 10 catcalls per hour while walking around town? It seemed more like a producer trying to get a viral video and an actress trying to drum up job opportunities.
Of course some of the ones they were showing were hi, how are you etc. just friendly greetings
She said on AC360 she was giving off a leave me alone expression so people should not have been bothering her.

This. My wife actually pointed out that video/article to me, she was confused as to what the issue was. What I saw was a lot of “hi”, "how are you?..I’m an ugly man and I get much the same treatment every morning at the gym.

Does that happen while you’re blow drying your balls? I can’t get anyone to talk to me while I do that.
Yeah it seems like they counted every instance of someone speaking to her as harassment rather than just the instances of boorish or truly creepy behavior.

No, only when I am shaving them in the communal sink…I have actually witnessed someone get escorted out for doing this.
As a woman I will weigh in. That much attention would make me feel uncomfortable. Even the “hello beautifuls” would be too much especially on the heals of a guy following you for 5 minutes.
As men, you don’t really understand what it’s like to walk in a world where even a 14 year old boy can over power you. We never really feel 100% safe.
I bet there are a handful of places this might occur but for the vast majority of the country this is not what’s going on on any kind of regular basis… New York is not the center of the Universe.
This is interesting. So please tell me, as a 32 year old single guy in NYC how am I supposed to meet someone for dating/engagement/marriage/family?
For the last decade or so I had been told by women that the best way to meet women was to be nice, be myself and just say hello and talk to them. Now, it seems my saying anything to them is sexual harassment. So how does this work?
Honest question to the womens – is this the norm??? I don’t know, so, I ask. I have never seen this type of behavior, except on tv shows. But, I live in Milwaukee, not NYC. Does that really happen on a regular basis?
I remember when I was in college in the early 90s there was a lot of construction on the campus and being ever so stereotypical some of the construction workers cat-calling the college girls as they walked by.

The info you have been given is correct but the context is wrong. Not a single one of those approaches would be appealing to any woman. They are all akin to Joey Tribbiani (friends) - “how you Doin’”. Approach women in coffee shops, book stores, transit, anywhere where she is safe and say something relevant. Not “hey beautiful”.

It happens to me a lot. Usually it’s the women’s calling me out (usually a “whoo hoo!” or a “hey, stud” but sometimes they throw panties at me), but guys yell at me, too. That’s the most flattering because I know them gays are more picky that the womens.
Mrs Duffy certainly attracts her share of weirdos.

Catcalling is not normal but not unusual. men do this shit all of the time. It gets old and tiring but not all that bad. For 43 years I have been catcalled and heard it all to the point of either thanking or returning the assine call. I find most of it humorous and laugh back. For the most part, none of it bothers me because I don’t let it.
