After a 30-40’ bike mechanical (broken chain), Cat has just moved into 2nd place, 1:16 back, and 5k to go. FREAKIN’ AMAZING!!!

I wish the race up-dates were coming in more frequently on ironman.com for the women’s race. There was like 20’ gaps between up-dates after the top men had finished.

Absolutely amazing!!!
Although Chrissie’s comeback following a flat was incredible, I believe Cat has now raised the bar significantly higher in the category of “Ironman win involving a catastrophic mechanical”. All I can say is WOW!!!
are we learning from that… like having a tool kit with an chain linker could be and usuful option (like and air pump ) ???
the choices are being 23.454 secs slower with the tool kit . or saving 25 min in case when we need it

I thought you needed to be within 8% of the winning time to get prize money? In which case the fact she lost time but still won will not effect her prize money but might mean that others get prize money they might not otherwise.
Perhaps you did not see the entire new rule…SHe lost a ton of money by having that mechanical. Reports say jshe was at the side of the road for 35 minutes, without that she takes most of the other places $$$ too. She would have at least doubled her paycheck, so she lost money… It was a gift to the other girls that she had that problem, under the new rules of course…
And in case you missed my sarcasm, I’m very against this rule…
