Soooo?? Who’s going? I am hoping for a really big ocean swell and colder than average ocean temps…we already have the biggest red tide I have ever seen here. The swim is the only advantage I have, got to take advantage of it!

Red tide is crazy this year, and the water has been pretty cool too. Signed up for the Camp Pendelton tri instead of doing Carlsbad…I might be out there take some pics and checking out the scene though.
Swim is my only advantage too…so I’ll make sure I do my “help the fishies, big swell” dance this weekend!

I’ll be there as well, hoping for big waves also. Not a super swimmer but I know how to go through the surf so taht gives me a bit of an advantage over the average Joe who doesn’t get in the ocean much.
I’m doing both and Vineman at the end of the month! I love to hurt myself!
May you get all the swells and may my later wave be flat!!!
Results are up. Anyone notice that a 16 year old age-grouper finished 7th overall, yikes!
I has happy with my race, finished 6th in my age group and 97th overall.
Thanks to all the volunteers and people cheering for TCSD,
Scott
Anybody else think the 5K was more like 6K?
I was spectating at the finish and noted some grumblings that it seemed long. This was the first time I’d watched a tri, and I was surprised at the lack of clapping and other positive energy from the spectators. I’ve run marathons and other races and there has always been a lot more enthusiasm from the crowd, even for a slow runner like myself. Is this par for the course?
Missed it. I’ve done it the last three years (AG 45-49) got 2nd, 2nd and 4th. This year, cripes, even with Russ Jones aging up, what a fast AG. I figure I’d be lucky to get 4th again. If Monty had not gone Pro, he’d gotten second (and me fifth or worse). It’s not often Monty gets beat. Glad I missed the slimy red tide crap, though. Congrats to all for braving that stuff.
Actually, I got the fastest time in the age group. They have made a mistake on my finishing time by about 35 seconds or so. Not sure what happened, but I was about 12 or so seconds behind Michille today. I had a pretty good race, and yes, the run course and swim course were long. The run trunaround was much farther than past years, and the swim was about 3 or 4 minutes long. That is why the times were so slow this year compared to years past.
Congratulations to KestrelKerri–8th in her AG!
Thanks I feel much better about my time now! BTW- you guys should see Monty’s hair!! WOOHOO!! SWEET!!!
I’m blushing, but thanks for the thumbs up on my new native american hair doo. I had to keep it short for so many years working in the Fire Dept., that I just said screw it, and let it grow. Now it is a weed, out of control, with a life of it’s own. Not sure how much longer I can take it though, I got to hand it to you gals, long hair is a chore…
Great race today by the way, and yes you can feel good about the time because the coures was definately long today…Monty
Does he still have the face hair too?
SEXY!!!
Another job well done, Monty. That run has always seemed long to me. The swim, well, they can make the swim as long as they want… all the better for me! (and you, too!)
I try not to compare times from year to year. Too many variables, besides someone’s cute idea of making the run longer, you can never be sure of the swim and then the surf conditions, as well. Oh, and wind on the bike. I tend to look how others do and how I know I typically do against them. Like I said, I would have had the crap beaten out of me this time!
A sparse season for me… too much money spent refurbishing the home.
My first time posting on this message board. I’m usually over at BT, but heard there were references to the race distances this year, and after doing Carlsbad yesterday, and being mystified why the run took me so long, I was convinced the course was longer than 3.1 miles. Sounds like I’m not the only one who thought so.
I’m doing the Pendleton Oly this weekend, so maybe see some of you there!
Welcome to ST, and yes the swim and runs were long this weekend. Maybe someone with a garmin or similar who did the race, could go over there one day and ride the runcourse for an accurate measure. Just so we can know our real time splits, and not be slitting our wrists after looking at the horrible 5k times…I figure the swim to have been 1200 to 1300, so you can figure your split from your pace in swimming…Monty
