Carlsbad CA area bike training advice

Howdy, I’m planning on being in Carlsbad from Sun/Thurs next week. This is my 4th time biking in the area. I need some help. I’ve done the usual Del Mar to Oceanside… C. Pend. rides. Plus I’ve done the ride from the casino (not sure of the name) to Palomar.

Just wondering if there are any other easy to find safe rides in the area. Is that classic Wed. AM ride still going? Thanks for your help.

Wednesday ride still goes. Leaves the starbucks at 8:15. Another option for a route would be to do the swamis ride but solo. Some people don’t like to ride elfin forest alone but I think it is fine. Don’t go to encinitas to start just head up palomar airport road, turn right on melrose, left on San elijo rd then right on elfin forest. Once you hit Escondido you can either come back to the coast via del dios or head up lake wohlford. If you need I can make a map my ride link for you.

That depends. No one is going to tell you to go home. There are a handful of tri guys that come out and do the ride on TT bikes, as well as roadies show on their TT bikes before states. But, just a word of advice, the ride is very fast right now, very fast. This week I ran 30+ from the turn around point till basically the exit of the main gate. If your not a really good bike handler and aren’t used to running at speeds like that in a big pack, I would suggest doing another ride. Good luck, weather has been great and riding has been a blast lately.

You could just send him up san elijo to the fire station and do repeats! Thats always fun! Well, I think its fun, thats what I am told it is by my coach.

yeah…that ride is flying right now. i was on Harmony Grove on just after the turn off of Elfin Forest recently (its been repaved, BTW…very nice)…the Swamis group ripped by me. I was going 25 or so and they went by like I was standing still.

Where are you staying? I will take you for a ride. I’m in Rancho Bernardo but I do ride all over. Just PM me if you dont want to ride alone.

That was actually the saturday ride. Which is flying right now as well.

last week Chris Horner hammered the ride on his time trial bike.
