Careful who you call a poser

I just sent off a ton of finisher t-shirts and other assorted clothing to the victims of Katrina.

If you see an out of shape guy wearing an IM Wisco finisher shirt, think twice before giving him a dirty look.

If surviving that mess isn’t an endurance sport, what is?

I just saw this on NOLA.com

Subject: My Hurricane Story – Evacuee rides bike to Baton Rouge

Story: Stev Godfrey, president of Higher Flyers handbill distribution service in New Orleans, rode his bike to Baton Rouge to escape Hurricne Katrina. Godfrey, who does not drive a car, is a bicycle advocate and community organizer and activist. His only available means of escaping the city before the hurricane was via his bicycle. He escaped sometime Sunday morning and arrived in Baton Rouge Sunday night. For those of us who know him, we are not only overjoyed by his safe evacuation, but are thoroughly insprired by his courage, his perserverance, and his can do attitude. We need more like him. E would be proud…

Judging by what I’ve read (it took the Tulane Women’s soccer team 10 hours to get from NO to Jackson, MS - 185 miles), he probably made better time on his bike.

Good on ya! I sent 6 bags of clothes and shoes off yesterday, including a number of NorCal race shirts, plus the suitcases they were packed in.

man the tailwind out of there must have been freaking amazing!

Where do you send this stuff? I have a ton of clothing (some brand new) I’d love to donate. The Red Cross won’t accept goods. Any idea where I could ship this stuff off to? Maybe a church or something. A lot of children’s clothing and shoes that I’m sure could be put to good use…kj

I was thinking the same thing. He probably averaged 34 for the trip.

The city I live in, Abilene, Texas may or may not be getting some evacuees in the next few days. If you don’t find an organization soon let me know and I’ll let you know for sure if clothing articles are needed here.

I feel pretty sure we’ll be getting some flood victims but won’t know of the needs they have until it’s official.

35 mph? It is only 65-70 miles (depending on the route). No problem with doing it in one day.

Each of our domestic offices is collecting clothing and other items and we are shipping them to our Houston office.

You might check the local St. Vincent de Paul Society, who is coordinating. Or, if you can’t find a place, anyone can ship here to me and I will add it to our stuff (about 70 boxes so far).

Here’s the latest info:
