I’ve been looking for a one piece bar system. One of our local riders has a brand new pair (NIB) of the Carbon X bars(w/ the old style extension) for sale…asking $150. At this price point would these be a good option?? There are so many newer bar systems out there, but I still see a lot of these on the road…and for the price…
Thanks,
HC
I actually prefer the older style extension, they work better for me than the newer ones. I’m actually looking for a set of these as we speak!
Other than the different extensions they are practically the same bar as the newer Carbon-X bars, of course with the Carbon-X’s you are limited by the stem length and angle, also, the pads are a bit high off the base bar but there is way to modify that.
Some of the newer bars don’t have an integrated stem so they allow you to dial in your position better but if the CX’s work for you then go for it! I actually ‘upgraded’ to Oval A900’s but after playing around with them for the last 2 months I realized I actually preferred my CX’s! Too bad I already sold them though.
Yeah, go for it at that price. I like the older extensions also. I also lowered the pads like many others did (search for tips on how). Can’t count how many tri championships on this “old” bar - last wast Peter Reid in '03 at Kona
I also like the one piece (i.e. stem built in) because they seem so much “stiffer” when climbing/sprinting
I really like the Hed bars better when I’ve ridden them, but they are not $250 nicer (if price is a concern to you).
