Poached this photo from the SaltStick site (nice idea!), and it shows the pads on Normann’s CarbonX’s mounted with what look like aluminum brackets designed to be flat on the tops instead of the usual bridge mount.
Are these available from Profile? I don’t see them on their site.
I have mine bolted right to the bar as well like Caleb (with some washers to dissipate some stress) and has been fine for 18 months and several tris (including IM distance). Why go for these things?
I’ve stuck a washer on both ends too, as a stress distributor. I believe Peter Reid has done this for years. Intuitively I’d say that just bolting the pads straight to the bar will get you lower than these low brackets.
just called profile for the bracket availability and i’m told no parts available to consumers. they only machined a handful for profile athletes and they plan on going to market in volume around late spring.
has anyone heard anything different since this thread? the chain below makes it sound like they were readily available.
They also told me they are supposed to be out this spring just like you heard…but I know they will sell a lot when they finally put them on the market. Rappstar got some with his new bike and he was going to check with his Profile contact, but I doubt there will be a different story. I don’t understand how it could be so hard to crank these puppies out!
The brackets will be available as part of Profile’s '07 line. I’m waiting to here when “'07” is defined as. If it is like cars, they could be available soon, if it is like normal things, it’s gonna be a while… You all will know when I know!
Someone ought to be able to come up with a CAD drawing so people who want that can go take it to a local machine shop and get one popped out. Shouldn’t be too expensive…
Has anyone, non-elite, been able to get this from Profile-Design via email or on-line? I thinking about getting the CarbonX but this part will make or break the deal.
