Carbon X or Oval A700

For under the price of the HED and Oval A900, below $450, which would you choose? Carbon X or Oval A700

Depends on the bike. Are you still planning on putting this on a Litespeed?

A friend’s Litepseed Saber…

Carbon-X, it’ll look a lot better, be more comfy, and fit the theme of the bike.

i used the carbon x on a borrowed felt b2 last year

now i have the A700 installed on a javelin arcole

i found the carbon x to be more comfortable and more adjustable (assuming you can live with a 100 or 120 stem). they are basically the same price when you consider that you’ll have to buy a stem for the A700.

i’d go with the carbon x (if I didn’t get a great deal on a used A700)

why a carbon X when you can buy a CBX Pro, or an Aluminum X which I believe both weigh in less than the Carbon X and are cheaper? Am I missing something here?

My vote is the HED bars, I love mine.

Hey antbear

I’m running the A700 and they rock! If you go with the Carbon X you’re stuck with the stem length that you choose, what if you change frames and need a longer or shorter stem?

You’re screwed! And it’s time for new bars. The only think that I can think of that I would change on my A700 is the pads but I have never really had a problem with them so I’m not changing.

I think when you talk about adjustability the stem is a big part of that! And with the Carbon X you take that out of the equation. And I think the A700’s are more aero.

The trailing edge of the Carbon X is like a standard road bar, rounds.

My two cents.

Dan…

i would buy a hed at tri-zone for $395
.

harm…thanks for the site. have you are anyone here bought from there? they have some great prices on hed and profile…

I guess most people at ST would just spring for the HEDs over anything else. My friend is just worried about cutting the extensions. Does any know if the bike fitter will cut the extensions for him during the fitting? Are the HEDs good for all terrains, hilly and flat?

"If you go with the Carbon X you’re stuck with the stem length that you choose, what if you change frames and need a longer or shorter stem?

Thats a bit of a white elephant…the adjustability of the pads and extensions more than makes up for any lack of stem adjustability…I never had an issue with mine over three different frames…

So Tribriguy, you’ve had no reason to go to the HED or the Oval A900 from the Carbon X? Just seems like HED or Oval A900 is the last stop on the aerobar train.

If the CarbonX is now shipping with the extensions the Rec10 showed around here two weeks ago don’t go near it. I have the original CarbonX and I also have had no problem fitting myself to three different frames, but I also have a Carbon Strike with those upright extensions. It came with my wife’s Kestrel. She couldn’t get comfortable on it. I switched her to a Syntace and I tried it. It was impossible. I now cut off those steep hooks, stuck the extensions in backwards and I’m trying it again.
