When installing these dia comp levers on the Carbon X, must I use the silver cylindrical shim(this would be the outermost layer of the part inserted into the bar end)?? Even w/ the shim closed as much as possible(such that there is no gap in the metal slit down its length) it still is a VERY tight fit. If I leave this out, the rest of the mechanism seems to tighten down fine. I just don’t want to leave out an important part, or hurt the carbon fiber.

I would put it in…it evens the pressure from the lever expansion plug to the bar…especially in a carbon bar…
