Carbon Rims Longevity Question

In my constant need to find up grades for my bikes I’ve been looking at all sorts of wheels, mostly carbon tubies, that I plan on riding as an everyday wheel. I know that the main danger of an everyday carbon tubie is the possibility of cracking the rim on a pot hole and waving goodbye to another $500 to have it rebuilt. I’m also concerened with the prospect of replacing tubie tires after every flat.

Today though, I had another thought. What is the word on the carbon brake surface wearing out? i know that they will begin to show wear (especially after you get caught in the rain and get a litte road grit in the brake pads), but assuming that I were to ride carbon rims all the time, and try to avoid the rain, how long before the wheels are comprimised due to wear on the braking surface?

And how often do I need to change Koolstops on the carbon rims that I currently have?

I am now riding with a set of “taiwan” carbon wheelset and their are great. I even received 2 sets of brake pads. I am so confident on those wheels that I will built the rear with my powertap. for the shoes, I have to admit that they are going quicker that the normal one, but what the hell! So far the braking surface is still as new. The reason why I choose those wheel is that I can train and race with the same wheelset and at $600 you cant really go wrong.
