Carbon repair?

Survived my first bike crash this weekend on the IMOO course. Nothing to serious minus some road rash and a bruised ego. The P2C suffered some pretty serious scratches though. Should I or is there anything I could use to seal or try to patch them? This is my first carbon bike and I’m not sure.

Thanks.

Last year I crunched my carbon bike, looking like a T-rex decided to bite the top tube. I thought it was over, and bought a replacement. Then I learned about Calfee’s carbon repair services. They were able to fix it and repaint it, and did a great job. They were fast to answer questions and communicate with me, before I even sent it down. So the you may want to get in touch with them, and see what they can do, and what they think. EMail and phone consults had no fee, but they do charge for a frame inspection if you send it in for an estimate. My job…major tube damage, custom paint, was $360 with shipping. Smaller repairs were less.

Are the scratches only in the paint or did they go into the carbon? As long as the scratch is not too deep you can use clear nail polish. It is much harder than a typical clear coat and does a good job of filling scratches.

Can you feel any flex in the frame around the scratched area? Are there fibres poking out of the damaged area? You might want to take the bike to your LBS to have them take a look at it before you attempt any repairs yourself…

If you’re LBS can’t help you call the guys at Calfee; they can fix almost anything.

The scratches are into the carbon. I don’t feel any flex but I’ll take it into my LBS to see, if not I’ll call Calfee’s.

Thanks for the responses.

Ditto on Calfee. I’ve seen quite a few various frames repaired by him(both calfees and other manufactures), very good work!!!

Double ditto on Calfee. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I own two Calfees. Well, one’s a Carbonframes which was built by him. Now, having seen the latest, I’m trying to resist replacing my Tetra Tri with another Tetra Tri or even go for the Dragonfly. I don’t need this, I keep telling myself, but the Luna I just saw is spectacular. If I can sell mine locally (eBay scares me) I’m going to succumb to temptation.
