Carbon Frame Damage

Planning to take my bike to the LBS but wanted to get some input before talking with the mechanic. Bike splipped out of the trainer and caused this damage. Considering the location and “gouges” I’m concerned the frame is done.

Does this look like more than just surface damage?

Whatever the lbs folks tell you, that frame is in no way ‘done’.

It does look like it would be smart to get a repair expert (calfee, etc.) to take a look at it. But if it needs repair, it should be very minor, and the frame should still have many miles it. Or, that is my take.

Hard to see since it is not a close up picture but there is only one small spot that looks like it got to carbon. If it did damage the carbon, looks like it could easily be fixed.

All carbon frames can be repaired if you go to the right person.

if you can see the damage
.

In the right hands it can be.

Unless you just want a new bike frame, I wouldn’t worry about it. Looks mostly superficial.

hard to tell from the pictures but it doesn’t look too deep. Let us know what the lbs says!

Lesson to be learned. Tighten up that trainer screw! I learned that one the hard way. Now I put it as tight as it will go so it’s hard as hell to clamp in. I’m a clydesdale and it works for me…

if all else fails…here you go.

From this photo, it just looks like surface damage. If there aren’t any strands of carbon showing, you’re probably fine. Get a touch up paint pen or nail polish (with a matte finish), clean the area, and then apply a few layers.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it’s OK to go. Lesson learned as far as the trainer goes - tighten it better and adjust the skewer handle so it can’t just slide forward.
