tomorrow is my marathon carbo-load party. i’m worried. thankfully, i’ve lost almost 10 lbs with dev paul’s zero weight gain campaign. but tomorrow could be deadly. potluck buffet. delicious trigger foods…
obviously, i’m gonna nibble. but could be dangerous.
I’ve followed Gordo’s carboload plan for IM (no experience w/ a marathon) and the day before I eat about 3,500-4,500 calories or so (lots of high GI stuff). My race weight is about 190lb or so. Not sure if this helps.
I’m definitely not an expert, but if you’ve done a pretty good job of replenishing your glycogen stores in the several days before your marathon, I’m not sure that you need to carbo load.
get real, either you are trained or you are not. You training pace isnt going to drastically change over your race pace in a marathon. You dont “carbo-load party” before every training run do you?
Just eat normally, grab a gel before you start and go.
Carbo-loading is to top off your glycogen stores. It won’t speed you up, but it will allow you more time until you hit the “wall” in a marathon b/c you’ve stored that many more carbohydrates in the body’s preferred reservoir of energy at marathon intensity.
