Amy Gillet, RIP, was an olympic rower turned cyclist…

Man, after reading the Inside Tri editorial, Caddell in Kona and other stories I’m getting pretty paranoid on the road.

Doesn’t seem like there is anything that can really be done about it…brighter colors only go sa far when the driver is asleep, impaired, or “loses control”.

This is so sad. Amy Gillet was a great athlete, she had been a member of the Australian Olympic Womens 8 Rowing team and had moved onto cycling.

The other riders who were badly injured were all up and coming cyclist. This is a really sad day for Australian cycling.

Vail Amy Gillet.

This is a stunner and a very black day for Australia cycling. My thoughts are with those families and friends. A real tragedy.

its really disturbing. The injuries sound absolutely horrendous…

Drivers who can’t drive properly are real menace. They should be banned from driving. Traffic police should focus on that instead of small infringements like exceeding the speed limit by a few mph.

Doesn’t Germany have much stricter licensing than the USA? That’s a scary thought.

For any of you who might want to send messages of support and sympathy to these cyclists and their families Australian Cycling has set up a link

This kind of thing has happened in my riding group just last year. It’s simply senseless that a beautiful person full of life be taken just due to another’s irresponsibile or incapable behaviour. In our case the action was tantamount to criminal.

For us riding the roads it is mindful to always keep in mind that the traffic law means nothing and offers no protection to a cyclist. We just need to stay sharp at all times.

Also prayers and well wishes for the other girls to have speedy and complete recoveries.
