Both are certified and cost roughly the same, although I’d have to pay extra for a longer certification on the 2001. Range Rover has 45k miles, Disco has 25k. Range is the HSE odel, with all the bells and whistles, Disco is the S model with none of the bells and whistles.
Right now … yes. I’ve always like the looks and really enjoyed the way both drove. I am looking for something big w/ off-road capabilities for the winter (skiing most weekends and do not want to be snowed in). While I could probably get the same with a Grand Cherokee or a Pathfinder, for the same money I prefer one of these. Plus, the 2003 has 3 years/38k miles of warranty and I could get the same on the 2001.
Are range rovers your only choice? Rovers are notoriously low on quality.
A friend swears he will never get another Rover due to the problems. Guy at work got a new Rover last year – yesterday he comes in with a brand new one – Asked why “The old one broke down, they tried to fix it – something else went wrong – so they gave him a new one.”
After seeing those two things happen plus other stories I have heard – No thanks.
Still on the fence between the two previously mentioned. My younger brother is trying to talk me into a new Grand Cherokee … thinks the base model with the current incentives would price out the same as the Rovers, have at least as good reliability, and be a much nicer ride on the road with more than enough off-road capability to meet my needs.
Jeep has no soul…get the Rover. And ANY car can be good, or bad…it is about how you take care of it. Unless you get an American car…then rest assured that as soon as the warranty is up, you will need a new water pump, starter, steering rack, alternator, the CD player will stop working, sunroof will leak…and the rear brake calipers will seize…like on my Olds…that was maintained to the T (all services performed BEFORE needed)…US cars are shit…period.
