Capital Punishment Resumption

Hey Look some guy is testifying before Congress revealing nothing new.

Meanwhile: Ole sparky is getting warmed up with plans to execute five criminals as expediently as possible.

Carry on the circle jerk of parsing semantics whilst the country is fundamentally changed in open view but people are too busy to notice. Sigh.

well, i saw and the first thing that came to mind was how the christian conservatives feel about this.

Ohh, it is the party of limited government, where the government is limited to small things, like deciding who lives and who dies.

Still missing the point big boy

you would be correct. I thought your point was that supposedly no one noticed.

I guess I’m missing your point. What to do? The 45% that will ALWAYS vote for the GOP supports the death penalty right now. They are the “tyranny of the non-majority” that supports that policy (regardless of every single argument), and is over-represented by a centuries-old flawed design. Resistance is basically futile in the near term. In 10-15 years enough DP supporters will have died that the position will be untenable (much like anti-SSM legislation). The durable governing 45% will become an embittered 40-42%.

The basic reality of dysfunctional partisan policy-making is a given, whether there is some testimony about an unrelated matter. Carry on thinking that this investigation is somehow solely to blame for the devolution of the GOP. Sigh.

Not a change from the POV where I live in Texas. All 5 are deserving of this fate.

Oh i agree and they picked a fine crop to execute: child torturers, child rapists, and child murderers. The Democratic candidate will have to absorb something to the effect of: you don’t think this white supremacist who tortured a little girl deserves to die? Wrong!"

He blew the dog whistle and the frothing mob went beserk over something inconsequential while he was again doing something consequential while they were distracted. No one seemed to care. Mueller testimony and the Group of Four were still the lead news yesterday. I mean WTF?

Ok, so I did understand your point. It was hard to miss seeing as it was front page news on every major outlet. I think “ignore” is probably more like it. I don’t have a strong view on the death penalty one way or another so it’s not of terrible consequence to me whether it’s on a state, federal, or all of the above level. Then again, I wasn’t one that was frothing at the mouth either.

I do think there is something quite consequential that came out the Mueller hearings though. While so many loved the chance at a character assassination of Mueller, those same people didn’t seem to notice his continued plea that a hostile foreign country continues a full-on assault to disrupt our electoral process. At least I assume they didn’t notice because they continue to support a president that not only has had nothing but great things to say about that country, he’s actively making excuses for them on why they aren’t so bad.

I dunno, this was the top story on my phone yesterday.

But who’s going to argue when they picked the most horrendous of the horrendous and each of the 5 is also out of legal challenges? There is literally no reason for them to not be executed at this point.

I have said from the beginning that one of tRumps biggest disappointments with his new job was when they told him that he couldn’t issue orders to have people killed. Looks like he found a way around that.

If we’re going to have it, not more hiding it. “Jury duty” for executions. Put it in a glass clear box in the middle of the biggest city near it for all to come and see. Live televise it.

If we’re that in favor of it, why all the shame and hiding it from view? Why all the separation and protections? Own it. If the people who support it can’t stomach it in their face, what’s that say?

At least when we picked up and threw rocks at the person it was our own hands and an open acknowledgement of our place in the system of ending human life.

So the pro-life party is doing this. Ok.

Nice deflection. And the party fighting it would rather kill innocent babies instead of despicable murderers. See how that works? Now, you want to chime in with something of substance?

What I said was of substance. It was a criticism of the GOP and how they claim to be “pro-life” when they are anything but. Anytime they claim to be pro-life, they should be laughed at and not taken seriously.

The entire premise of your post is false.

Every single news outlet covered this. In depth. No one missed it.

But carry on thinking you are the only one smart enough to notice.

Pro-Life is a stupid moniker, just like pro-choice. And yes I can justify the two positions constitutionality. Put simply, the constitution says a person cannot be deprived of life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness without due process of law. An individual who has been convicted by a jury of his or her peers and exhausted all appellate remedies has certainly been afforded the due process of law (more on that in a second). An unborn baby has not, simply by virtue of being a “choice”. That particular living being has not been afforded due process. That’s the way I see it anyway. The Supreme Court currently disagrees with me on that, and has allowed abortion laws to stand. I also think we have a moral obligation to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I

Now, let me say that I do believe that the justice system has been stacked against certain groups of people for some time now, and whether these individuals were actually afforded due process is now called into question. In the immortal words of William Blackstone, it is better that 10 guilty persons escape than one innocent suffer. Because of that, I am re-thinking my personal stance on the death penalty. We better be damn sure the person is guilty before using that as punishment.
