Cape Fear (Apple TV)

I watched the first two episodes. I like it. Both a very similar and very different vibe from Scorsese’s 1991 masterpiece. Javier Bardem certainly commands every scene he is in and, obviously, he’s going to completely explode at some point.

All that stated, the 1991 movie is, so far, much better. De Niro was just far more menacing. With the obvious caveat that there’s still eight more episodes for Bardem to shine. A slower burn is to be expected when comparing a two hour movie to a 10 hour series.

Watching the second episode tonight, enjoyed the first one with a few minor quibbles. I haven’t seen the movie in over 30 years so I may brush up on that to better appreciate the details in the series.

Juliette Lewis cameo in Episode 3.

I rewatched the 1991 film last week. Man, I forgot how dark that was. I don’t see this series going there.

The series is not wowing me so far. It’s just dragging. I can’t stand any of the kids or any of the kid’s friends. They’re all super annoying.

Still a lot of series to go but it needs to start getting good. 10 episodes of average isn’t going to cut it.

I really hate the kids.
