Cannondale Ironman 1 SRM

I can’t even find this on cannondale’s own site yet:

.

Same frame as the IM 800, 1000, and 6000 but with better components.

I love the Slice frame, bought the 800, and then built up the rest at a huge discount over the 6000.

Nice…but when you look at the Ironman 2 - the exact same bike as this years Ironman 2000 - the price is $100 more! I thought bikes were supposed to get cheaper?

That is a HOT bike. Should sell well after winning Kona soon. Although…IMO, the build per cost ratio is terrible.

Having the same frame is a bonus…you just pick the frame colour you like the most, and build to suit. Some of these frames are works of art!!! For whatever reason, you can get an 800 frame a whole lot cheaper than a 2000 or 5000 frame.

Hmmmm, let’s see…

Two major wars.

Two major hurricanes.

Gas bouncing around $3.00 a gallon.

Two major airlines bankrupt in the same day.

Home prices tanking as interest rates threaten to scale up.

And how are bike prices supposed to go down?

Good points, Tom. I suppose war, hurricanes, gas can all have an effect. Still…wouldn’t the prices have been set long before these natural disasters? The companies do have certain price points that they want to achieve when they spec a bike, correct?

I would just figure that when the only difference in this upcoming model year is a new name and a new paintjob, (same component spec, and no new technology) that the price would at least stay the same or go a bit lower. These bikes have been the same for the last couple of years, except for the move to 10 speed last year, so it’s not like it’s a new model.

I’m curious to see what the other companies do. e.g. some Cervelo models may not change much…will their prices go up too?

All in all, still good bikes though! But I do prefer the paintjobs from the last couple of years…these new Cannondales seem to have lost a bit of their identity. They tend to not stick out as much.

To say it is the same as the 6000 with better components is a stretch.

It is the same bike as the IM 6000 - with DA10 instead of Campy record 10 - with one exception - the SRM powermeter system - which yes - is very nice.

Apart from that - identical bike. I should know - I own one

IM 6000 @ $5,499 = IM 1 @ $4,999(non-SRM version)…same bike, but the IM 1 has DA components, whereas the 6000 has Campy. Other than that, exactly the same (different saddle too). So switching to Dura Ace cuts the price by $500.

IM 2000 @ $2,899 = IM 2 @ $2,999…same bike, same components, different saddle…IM 1 is $100 more?

It’s the same with the next model down…same component spec, but $100 more.

Either way, they’re all nice bikes. And yes, I’d love to give the SRM model a try.
