Cannondale Ironman 1 Six13 Unveiled

Last week C’Dale unveiled the pricing and specs on the new Six13 Carbon/Aluminum frame IM 1 TT bike. My local shop called me today and I placed an order for the new new thing. I also still have an order for the 2005 version (all aluminum). I have until end of next week to decide which one to settle on.

Feedback?

I’m concerned about getting the first revision of the new Tri bike with Carbon/Aluminum.

No worries about the Six 13 being new. It isn’t new. The Six 13 design concept on the triathlon bike is the third generation Six 13 configuration. The Six 13 construction is now entering its fourth (or fifth?) year.

It’s proven technology.

Now, that said, I had a choice of both bikes and I decided on the aluminum bike.

What Tom says. (2) buddies ride their SRM equipped Lampre Six13 and love em…

I’d get the alum due to the geometry.

Go back and look at the differences and seat post…

Please tell me you got the integrated SRM, that is one awesome bike for IM racing. It might as well have a guage telling you when to eat or drink.

If the Six13 tri bike is anywhere near as good as the Six13 road bike then you’ve got nothing to be concerned about.

Now I’m confused and not sure what to do. Is the extra $500 worth it or not? Is the Aluminum geometry better?

SRM…you gotta be kidding. I had to beg for months to shell out $4500 for a TT bike. I wish SRM!

Aluminum = 78 degree seat tube

Six13 = 75 degree seat tube

You can make the Six13 ride steep at 78-79 deg…but you’re going to have to jam the saddle all the way forward, or use a Thompson setback turned forward…the head tube angle and chain stays appear to be the same, so the handling and feel should be the same on either bike, provided you put your saddle in the same spot over the bb and in relation to your aerobars.

Go back to the article, the Six13 comes with a reversible seatpost so you can ride it from 75-79 degrees, just turn post around and ride. They havent changed anything else so I would imagine the idea was simply that Health Net and Barloworld riders can pass UCI inspection and then ride right on the front of the saddle like everyone else.

I have tried both Six13 and CAAD8 road bikes (I have a CAAD8) and there is a difference on some road surfaces. Some rougher surfaces can be transmitted to you more on the all aluminum, but I dont find the aluminum uncomfortable.

If it was me I would go with the aluminum frame and save the extra for something else, but I’m a cheap bastard!

That’s just lip service. Saeco was riding the IM bike with the saddle pushed back. Seems to be a much better solution…

I know pix can be deceiving but that saddle sure doesn’t look 5cm behind the BB. I thought that was the rule under UCI?
