Candy bars?

All this healthy talk about gels, shots, etc. What about good old fashioned candy bars during the race (HIM)? I’ve been eating them for Oly races & long bikes/runs & seem to work pretty well. Not only that, but they taste a whole lot better. I prefer Milky Ways.

M&M’s work for me fairly well but there is a lot of fat to digest in chocolate bars.

Im sure we’ll here from the cyber-nutritionists, but I say use whatever works for you.
I’m a big fan of red vines for long rides :slight_smile:
The only problem with candy bars is the mess they create on a hot day. I guess that’s why the m&m’s might be preferred…you know, “melts in your mouth…”

I friggin LOVE Red Vines. Enough that I’m really glad we don’t have them here in Canada!

Wow. What about Good N Plenty? I love those things. But, I’ve never tried them while slow twitching, yet.

Mars bars… nutritional content isn’t that much different to a powerbar, but loads nicer.

Nothing finer than Peanut Butter M&M’s.

There’s NOTHING better than a Coke and a Mars bar to pull you out of that shelled hole, or to rocket propel you to the finish.

I don’t carry Mars bars though as they’d get all melty… Quik-E-Marts or sag wagons with coolers!

I had a huge box of Mike & Ikes in my run special needs bag at IMAZ. Best decision ever.

There is nothing better than a coke & peanut butter Twix at the mid point of a long ride. I dont make a habit of it but if you’re still 30 miles from home and are totally tapped out this combo can be a lifesaver…

anyone try this yet in training, they taste good but I have yet to try them in training

I’ve been saved by PayDays before on long rides, no mess from melted chocolate to deal with and tons of protein too. I remember way back when on TNO (back when people posted there regularly) that a nutritionist analyzed PayDays and said they were comparible to things like Clif Bars and Power Bars, and also a lot cheaper too.
