Cancun 70.3 and hurricanes

So, anyone want to take a guess as to if the race will go off or not? I haven’t watched the news or weather much, so if it changed course ignore me. I haven’t made my flight or motel reservations yet. Think I’ll wait a few more days and see if they get trashed or not.

Im in the same boat, going to wait it out and see before i register and book everything. From what i just heard on the radio that area is a little north of the areas that will be getting the worst damage(belize city area).

I am already stuck!

But with that being said…

It is over a month until the race, and this place thrives on vacation spending. They will clean the place up spic and span in a couple of weeks, unless the hurricane is just unimaginable bad.

Then it will take 3 weeks, and only a few places will out of commission longer than that.

Oops!
It just went to a Cat 5 storm. ALL bets are off in my other post!

I wonder if I cancel my flight or change destinations now?

Thailand is looking pretty good now!

weather.com : “The resorts of Cancun and Cozumel will not feel the full brunt of Hurricane Dean but waves on the order of 18 to 24 feet are expected to crash along the shores resulting in severe beach erosion. Squalls of tropical storm-force winds and heavy rains will rotate in across the resorts tonight and into the early morning hours.”

18 to 24 foot surf!

I am sure someone on Slowtwitch would say
“I’ve swum in worse”

Thanks for the update

While a Category 5 is not good, at least the eye was well south of Cancun and they will have over a month for any necessary clean up. I would guess the event will still be a go but who knows. Cancun thrives on tourism and they’re still feeling the pain from Wilma 2 years ago. I’m sure Cancun will do everything in their power to get the tourists back as quickly as possible… That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
