I had lunch with my ~84 year old grandmother today, who just finished a round of radiation treatment for breast cancer. When I asked her how she was holding up, she told me:
This cancer is nothing. I fell down last night. That hurt! I can feel it sitting right now…
What a great lady! I always love talking with elders. They speak their minds and usually have lots of wisdom and a good perspective on what’s important and what isn’t.
kudo’s on holding the laughter in … i wouldn’t have been able too. LOL
sounds like your grandma is going to be just fine - she’s got the right attitude that’s for sure, the same as my aunt who is now 2yrs cancer free (again)
not sure what the national total came out to, but the run for the cure that i participated in yesterday raised $460,000+ for breast cancer research. with that kind of support we will have a cure soon!
They are tough , I just saw a repeat of the 100 year old group on HBO all were born about 1900 , , One women said I had 6 children in this house ,never been in a hospital , no wait once in 47 to visit my brother . They other talked about the depression ,lack of food , dust bowl years , It was bad but it didn’t kill us. They make our problems, sound so small ,in comparison .
yes, those generations went through a heck of alot more than what we do…if the depression happened now I think people would ball up in fetal position and die on the sidewalks. My Dad passed away 2 1/2 years ago and he was a WWII veteran, age 74. He sure was tough, and I’m thankful that he was my Dad–I’d be alot wimpier if my parents weren’t of that generation (mom had me at 41 years old in 1974, and no I was not an oops, or so I’ve been told
my husband’s granny, age 85, just broke her leg…we went to visit her and said not one word about the leg pain, but was more upset that she can’t get up and complete the final grass cutting with her 1920’s push lawn mower. Unreal!
