Canadian Slowtwitchers! (from Alberta, and the East Coast)

you have to be shitting me. no races in alberta? so sez my race calendar, with 1200 races so far input, and nothing in the entire province of alberta. can somebody in that province put down his tim horton long enough to input some races, or at least post here to let me know what races do exist? i happen to know that both calgary and alberta are warmbeds of triathlon. you’ll never be hotbeds if you don’t let people know you have any races in your province.

and you québécois, can you stop your swooning over dominic rollin long enough to do the same? i’m showing that new brunswick, PEI, newfoundland, nova scotia, has a grand total of one race in toto, the 70.3 newfoundland, and quebec has 3. so, while ontario alone has 54 races on the slowtwitch calendar, there are a grand total of 4 triathlons available to the entire french speaking part of your country? do you think we americans will ever take your calls for independence from the english seriously if you can only manage 4 multisport events?

Dan,

I’ll put up the Nova Scotia races once we have our calendar - it’s still being finalized. If the New Brunswick races aren’t up by then I’ll put those up at the same time.

Shane

can somebody in that province put down his tim horton long enough to input some races,

It’s Roll Up The Rim To Win time, no one up here is putting down their Tim’s!

Nothin’ makes us put down our Timmy’s…

The Alberta Triathlon Association has a pretty good race schedule on their website:

www.triathlon.ab.ca/content.php?id=105.

ok, I had been waiting, not wanting to step on any RD toes, but I have now relented and I put up four of my favourites for Alberta (Vulcan Tinman, Chinook Half 119.1, Sylvan Lake Tri, Great White North). Actually I’m assuming that Chinook will be one of my favourites since I haven’t actually done it yet, and I’m not sure why I’d ever call Sylvan Lake a favourite considering how it kicked my ass quite soundly in '05.

"The Alberta Triathlon Association has a pretty good race schedule on their website:’

i emailed their communications director and got an “out of the office for a few days” message.

and hmmm, no entries for Saskatchewan? That’s got to change…

Sounds par for the course.

gwntriathlon.com - best little race conveniently located in the middle of nowhere (by standards south of the border)…

ahhhh glory days…

Crap, that may have been the funniest thing I’ve read on ST in a long time. Sprayed some of my double-double all over the keyboard…

Regina Beach Triathlon!

For Christmas I got a Tee shirt that says “Gimme my Timmies and no one gets hurt”. My family knows me well. Straight from Masters practice to Tims for a recovery drink.
j

“Regina Beach Triathlon!”

regina has a beach? does it have palapas on it, where you can drink margaritas and listen to jimmy buffet music? in any case, put that race up on the calendar!

Done. I did the race last year… my first podium!

The race site has few details yet… so I filled in what I could
Venue is Last Mountain Lake. 100 Miles Long, 2km wide (at best) and a max depth of 30ft.

I’ll add in the smaller local Edmonton races tonight…

You haf to say `dat wit an haccent to get hus to move, tabarnak. We gots lots of snow and hice hup 'ere, hein?

I was wondering about that - I just got back to Montreal, so aren’t that familiar with the various series, but I know that there’s a Subaru series in the Laurentians. There are also alot of independent races, kids only races, etc. Theres the Esprit IM which is very possible, a double IM in Quebec, and Somersault does a really nice race series in Eastern Ontario/Ottawa…

Maybe I’ll take a look at it tonight, if I get a chance…I’ve got the girl…

Bry-

There’s the Great Canadian 70.3 in Edmonton, usually around the Canada Day Weekend.

There’s the Sylvan Lake (near Red Deer) 70.3 late July (it was July 22 last year).

Others:

Coronation Super Sprint - May 25 - Edmonton 1km swim/25 km bike/8 km run

Summerside Olympic - Late August - Edmonton

Lots of other Olympics in Alberta - I bet you could do one every weekend if you wanted.

Cheers,

M.

Great Canadian 70.3???

I live in Edmonton. I’ve never heard of this race.

Do you mean Great White North Half-Ironman? It’s not part of the shitty 70.3 brand.

I’ll add in Coronation, Summerside, Hinton, Arbour Lake, Chapparal, Splash Pedal Gasp tonight…

OH yeah… Strathmore Women’s, Leduc Women’s, Red Deer Sprint, UCTC Sprint, U of A Sprint, MRC Sprint, Half Moon Lake Sprint, Wetaskiwin Sprint.

Some more I can’t think of…

Hi Dan,
I noticed non of the Somersault series on the calander. http://www.somersault.ca/ . Just in case you wanted more from Ontario.

“i happen to know that both calgary and alberta are warmbeds of triathlon.”

Calgary is in Alberta. I am hoping you meant Calgary and Edmonton.

Please dont put down your timmies. I work for their real estate department. Keep drinking it!!

In Sunny Manitoba this season we have 4 duathlons, 1 girls Tri, 11 Triathlons (including one half iron) and 8 kids of steel races.

Here is the link to our race Calendar:

“I am hoping you meant Calgary and Edmonton.”

precisely. my fingers got ahead of my brain. that gets me into bigger trouble than thinking edmonton and writing alberta.
