I know you can in a VW bus. Its cooler anyway
With the seats up-yes. The seat do fold down into a nice little bed.
how wide is the thermarest?
Depends, do you like to sleep in your crocks?
I’ve slept in mine on one occasion with the seats folded flat. It wasn’t a great night of sleep, but it wasn’t bad either. It got the job done.
I’ve also taken both the seats completely out. I suggest doing it. Although they fold up reasonably flat against the sides, with them out it feels like there’s a lot more room in the back.
EDIT: I’m 6’0" and had a several inches to spare before finding the steering wheel, if that means anything to you.
The seats come out really easy. I removed one myself.
Get a pick up truck with a hard cover for the bed. Install the mattress in the bed and forget about the Element.
If you are thinking about putting a twin mattress in the back with one seat down, than you might have to rethink that. I just took a look and a rough measurement and there’s no way the mattress would fit back there with one seat down. It would probably fit with both the seats up, though, if that’s an option.
You could also try a pool raft. Ive used them for several occasions while camping and they do the job. Keep in mind, the last time I used one was when I was probably 150lbs +/- 5lbs, but they always worked fine. It’s going to be a tight fit no matter how you do it, but I think the raft would fit.
Martin’s got a shaggin wagon
.
I think you should take your bed and go on down to the dealership and try it out. Then if it doesn’t fit, say “no way I’m buying this”.
No, I didn’t mean that you were ever going to purchase it. If it does fit you say “I gotta check with the wife first”.
This is the coooolest Element add on I have ever seen.
