Can you ride your tri-bike with no hands?

I sure can’t. Is it a matter of bike design or rider balance? I’m currently on a Yaqui Carbo, looking for a new ride so I can go steeper/lower. I’d love to be able to ride no-hands so I could stretch my back on occasion.

Not for long!

think that comes down to bike handling skills
.

I think it has more to do with the seat being farther out over the BB… IE more like a unicycle.

I really noticed a difference when I put clip on aero bars on my road bike and pushed the seat all the way forward.

Could ride all day before now it is much harder.

But on a unicycle the seat is directly over the hub on the drive wheel (the only wheel). I think you’re right that it’s about the seat being so far over the BB, but not like a unicycle. Not sure though.

I don’t think so. I can ride my road bike for miles with no hands. And I can also (and do) ride a unicycle.

Set up to the same way, the QR Kilo no, the Cervelo P2K yes. They handle very different - the Cervelo holds the straight line by itself…The difference is probably front rake angle and wheelbase.

Yes, but it is much more difficult than a road set up. As said before, it was to do with where the seat is situated. I have to fight not to lean to far forward while sitting up.

Yes I can, however I tend to lean forward a bit when I do, I also cannot hold it for very long, 25 yards or so seems to be the limit.

I have always been a very good bike handler…to the point that in races I would climb with no hands while drinking while in the lead bunch. (yes I was a snotty high school kid who was pretty confidant in his climbing abilities). Until a couple of days agao I had never tried to ride my tri bike sans hands. Not sure why but I never had. But now I know I can.

Yeah did it for the first time down at paulos training camp… feels wierd compared to a road bike or mountain bike but once you get used to it, its easy.

Yes, but not with the same confidence/balance I have on my other bikes.

When we were kids, we used to ride no-handed all the time (on Schwinn’s and Huffy’s). We also often road with someone on our handlebars. Don’t see hardly any of that any more from the younger generation. Maybe that’s a good thing.
