Can you paint Nokon housing?

I’ve heard about corrosion issues with the silver and gold nokons. Has anyone ever tried painting them??
I’m thinking about losely stringing them up outside and having at them with some good spray paint.
Thoughts?

Thx

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hopefully that gets across the feelings I have on that

Seriously though, because the cables will flex, the paint will chip, bubble, break, and then gum up the line even more.

However, if you were to get some anti-corrosion treatment (typically used for the underbody of a car), and sprayed it on the links BEFORE the liner sleeves are inserted, then you might have some success.

i would think any decent anodizer could do them for ya.

Sure you can, but “should you” is a completely different story.

If you are doing this as a pre-emptive strike against corrosion, then don’t. Painting them will give you results way worse than the minor tarnishing or pitting. The likelyhood of your backyard paintjob peeling off/chipping is way higher than the risk of Nokons corroding. Getting them anodized will cost you the minimum processing charge at a plating shop unless you know someone… (Like my wife  ) It’d be cheaper to just replace them.

What, are you planning on putting this bike in your will? Ride with them as long as you have the bike or as long as people don’t stop and stare at your horrible bicycle maintenance skills. If they get really bad, use them as evidence to convince yourself that you need a completely new bike.

Brad

to get them anodized would cost you a fortune and painting will had weight so the easy sollution is to replace them every 6 months or so.
