Can you OD on endurolytes, lava salts, etc?

With all this overhydration talk around, what happens if you take, say, 10 Endurolytes before a 1/2 IM, and 5 more every hour? (just as an example…) You’d taste nice, but what else? Chris Legh has done some serious work and I hear he needs 20 times the salt intake as the avg athlete (he mentioned this at last years Meet the Pros forum at Eagleman).

Better safe than sorry or do you dry up like a slug??

Can you OD on endurolytes, lava salts, etc?

yes.

Can you under supply electrolytes?

yes.

never take the overdose, ‘better safe than sorry’ approach, just listen carefully to what your body wants. it is a skill that takes some training.

Yes you can… I had a friend OD on them at IM one year. He was taking like 2-3 a mile on th erun… He ended up in the medical tent in pretty bad shape. he had actually gained 15 punds during the race because of all the water retention that took place bc of the salt tablets…

Some athletes need huge amount’s of salt…I have always had problems with cramps and I believe it was salt related. I read Gordo’s book and he says “Some athletes in general need 400 mg of sodium per hour is enough for most athletes. Some athletes require up to 1,000 mg of sodium per hour, and others require no supplementaion at all” I have tried in training with 1,000 mg per hr and have had no cramps, and just had my pressure checked and it was in line with being healthy and normal. This is with Spiz, Gatorade, and thermolyte…But you have to try your own formula with products and see how your body handles the salt intake…
