Can you find used bib shorts? If so, is it safe to take that route? I’ve always had either tri or normal bike shorts but have heard only good things about bibs. I don’t really want to take the $100+ plunge right now, especially since I just bought a new tri bike, helmet, and garmin edge 305. I’m cool with used goods if they are still good.
You can sometimes find them on Ebay. If you launder them after you buy them, can’t see how it would be any different than if you bought them new and wore them a few times yourself.

Except for the small difference it wouldn’t actually be your genetalia sweating up against the chamoix for hours at a time obviously. I’d personally be hunting out a cheap new pair to see how they feel.
Once drove a couple of hours to an evening crit in the UK with a mate. Realised just as he was warming up for the 3rd Cat race that I’d forgotten my shorts. Immediately after his race I grabbed the only pair of shorts we had between us, and chucked them on for the 1st and 2nds race. I can honestly say I’m still scared, I distinctly remember the feeling still.

No way ever…I am always floored when I see “pre-owned” or “used” shorts for sale places.
Think about it this way…would you buy/wear used underwear?
Riding shorts are much worse than that…
Its obviously up to you but there is know way in hell I ever would!
While I have never used it, I stumbled upon theproscloset.com a while back. Don’t know if it’s real, don’t know if it’s legit, but there is generally some pretty cheap kit on there, oftentimes new or very lightly used. Might be an option so you don’t have to think about rubbing your sweaty junk where someone else’s sweaty junk has already been rubbed.
If you’re patient, they come up on bonktown a lot…
